'16 NJ QB Jarrett Guarantano (Vols commit 4/15/2015)

What kind of paradoxical nonsense is this?

Guarantano struggled with overthrows near the end but I think he'll get that 5th star and be every bit the player at Tennessee that he's expected to be in this thread. I wouldn't trade another class of '16 QB for him. Not Eason, not Patterson, not anybody....

Kinda glad he struggled a bit. If he had played lights out and got the full court press from every school could have ended up bad for us. Like the raw skills I saw and if he's teachable should be a nice addition.

Yes, it could have been bad for TN...JG could have gotten the full court press from someone like the defending national champions - whose head coach is a ruthless recruiter that would have left us in the dust. Wait, never mind...

And why is that? Is there something wrong with "us"?

It would not surprise me if 247 pulls some crap to drop JG because of that one day and pull some here and now bs despite it being clear how much potential he has from the first 3 days of the event. They didn't even include him in their elite 11 ranking putting dudes that didn't do jack squat like Jawan Pass ahead of him. Then they will use the potential card as reasoning to keep Eason ahead of Patterson when Patterson owns that dude at every event.

Lol... Quit wasting your time trying to fool us

I know it didn't mean much, but it would have been nice to hear he lite the place up

You mean like the comments from Dilfer saying he can make every throw & may be too talented? Yea, he had a bad week.Smh... He had one bad day with a bunch of players he has never played with before

This is comical... He already had the "full court press" from Ohio St and Oklahoma and he was performing lights out until the last day... AND STOP SAYING 'WE' AND 'US' when referring to Tennessee! I can't believe our mods put up with this crap.

Right here, buddy! :finger3:

Love JG and think he is a player. One weakness of his is his drops he has to get quicker. But this will all be corrected with Nick S. I agree on 5 star status.

Based on 247's comments regarding the Opening, IMO, he's going to have to have a good senior season to receive a notable bump in the rankings.

They (Simmons) essentially expressed concerns over consistency and production during games. There was more, but I'm on mobile.

Whatevs. The proof is in the season where actual football is played. I hate that his 7v7 showing was horrid though and he didn't create equity from his other reps. Thought he might get the benefit of the doubt. But others did better and hats what the week was all about... An even playing field and he didn't produce. It's fair I suppose.

Barton Simmons is a vandy fan i think that's all that needs to be said in that regard, JG is a top 3 QB this year. All bias aside any idiot can see that

Honestly? It's kind of a fair criticism at this point.

He has the highest upside of any QB in this class. I believe that. And I also think games of 7-on-7 aren't the best place to get production out of a DT QB. Still, given his performance in the E11 games and his good-not-great statistical season last year, I think it's fair to argue that he needs to do a better job carrying his practice/camp performances into games.

Having said all of that, I still wouldn't trade him for anybody. His potential is obscene and I trust this coaching staff and scheme to get that out of him.

He was injured last year and the team he plays on is not that good, so that argument is invalid

No, I don't care about excuses. In the games he played, he averaged 147 ypg while completing 58% of his passes. When he was on the field, that's how he performed.

He wasn't injured at the E11, and he was throwing to the same group of WRs as the other QBs who outplayed him in the 7-on-7s.

It's not an insult to say that he needs to do a better job of translating his obvious physical tools to game situations. I'm not bashing him. I'm saying that 247 has a solid argument behind their decision not to catapult him up the rankings. He still has a lot of work to do to earn a fifth star.

I can agree with this. Unfortunately he can't show off his running ability that I think really sets him apart from the other guys in this class. He is an elite run threat with an elite arm. My thoughts on his performance in 7 on 7 is simply that he needs to learn when to laser one in there and when to add more touch. I thoughts his decisions were fine In terms of where he was throwing the ball. He just tried t show off his arm with all the big prospects in town
