This kid reminds me of Eric Fisher. Will be our best linemen first day on campus. Day one starter.

Why fear an offer by Butch to a Colerain kid that would RS a year anyway? This is nothing like Raulerson. 6'7" frame with long arms and explosion off the LOS. They played him a lot as a blocking TE in HS. He put people on their backs on the ground at the LOS and well down field. I can see why Mahoney's interested.

So what you're saying is, VN can go ahead and change his position?

Per P Fort

As for Nathan Hiehaus, the offensive lineman out of Cincinnati, quite frankly, I'll be shocked if he's not a Vol. His mother grew up in Knoxville, his grandparents and two aunts still live in Knoxville and Clinton and he grew up a Tennessee fan (he told me one of his yearbook pictures of when they were younger that parents give is of him in a UT starter jacket). He was very excited about the offer and will be coming down this weekend to visit Tennessee while the Vols host a junior day.

He admitted that as of right now he most likely will commit to Tennessee even though he's been committed to West Virginia for a while.

As for his game, he's a really intriguing prospect. He's 6-6, but only about 250 but is really long and absolutely loves to hit people. There are a few clips in his film where he's just looking to take shots. Hard not to like that about a lineman. Now, he's got a long ways to go and he knows that, but nonetheless, the tools are there to start from: size, athleticism (he played TE half of last year and some schools thought he could play that) and mindset. Obviously, a developmental guy and who knows what he turns into down the road, but intriguing to say the least.

Eric Fisher said he wishes he was as talented as this kid

There are some really good TE to OL converts. Aaron Douglas was great here before he left the program. Former Vol commit Eric MacLain, that Dooley told we didn't need, was first team all ACC this year on the OL.

Without the regular season to focus on, the staff is able to follow up on some big leads... Keep 'cruitin' along, gentlemen. Keep 'cruitin' along.

Very interesting offer. This kid looks like the protoypical Offensive Tackle for Mahoney. Remember, Mahoney recruited Eric Fisher when he was a 2-star, and he went on to become the 1st pick in the NFL Draft. Niehaus seems to have a bit of nasty in him, too. Niehaus' offer sheet isn't that impressive on the face of it, but it is worth noting that he has a ton of offers in his home region. Suggests he just hasn't gotten that much national attention, but seems to be a well regarded prospect locally.

Of course, I don't want to declare him the next Eric Fisher just yet. But it is an interesting offer out of the blue from a coach that has a reputation for finding diamonds in the rough.

Mahoney went and watched him the Friday night before the KY game, apparently we saw something we liked. Callahan also mentioned it could be that some of the other true OT targets like Tatum are not likely to be Vols.

What about the kid from West TN that they were looking at?

EDIT: Found him, Sadarius Hitcherson from Huntington, TN - we had looked at him as an OT project

Sadarius Hutcherson, Huntingdon, Strong-Side Defensive End

Hitcherson has a much better offer list

Our inability to consistently attract highly OT 's on a yearly basis is mind blogging.. We have a huge need at that position

At this point, we have developed a little bit of depth, though not as much as we would like, and can afford to take a guy who will need time to develop in the weight room.

Hall, Richmond, Johnson in just the last two years. What's wrong with those guys?

Nothing at all.. The point is we can't seem to recruit enough Tackles. Johnson will be a back up next year.. We have gaps in yearly tackle recruiting.. That's all.

theres nothing wrong with adding a kid who knows he will be a project type player for a couple years as he works to get bigger. The plus side is he has alot of tools to work with. Hes very athletic and long. If they could pull Dickerson, Johnson and Niehaus id be pretty happy.

Butch has only missed on Blair and everyone was drooling over that commit at the time. Taking two true tackles in each class is fine. It's going to take some time to crawl out of the 2012 vacuum.

2013: Sanders and Kendrick
2014: Blair
2015: Hall and Richmond
2016: Johnson and Niehaus

Sanders is a G and Kendrick should only play G...we really have true 2 tackles in the roster as Blair probably won't be back...
