Sanders is a G and Kendrick should only play G...we really have true 2 tackles in the roster as Blair probably won't be back...

It's certainly not the deepest spot on the field. But it's a lot better than last year. And in emergency spots Thomas and Jones can fill in. It'll only get better.

I could see this guy playing by his RS FR year if his weight is the only problem. Hes somewhere between 250 to 260 right now. So assuming he can put on 10 pounds by august. He'll come in almost ready.

This is assuming the staff wants him in the 290 to 300 lb range

Isn't Marcus Tatum listed around 6'6'' 255lb? and hes one of the top tackles on our board.

Like I've been saying we will be fine with OL recruiting come signing day just like last year.

Have we missed on some targets? Yes

But we still have a ways to go and some evaluations are pushing some guys way up the board such as Nathan. This guys offer list is about to blow up as teams do their end of year evals

I just watched his senior film. I have no idea of the level of competition, but he was pancaking or driving kids 10 yards off the line the entire time. Plus, he has a nasty a** streak in him as evidenced by destroying a kid that wasn't looking before the play was over (1:14 mark).

Works for me.

I don't know, but it's mind blogging.

Well played.

I will say this though. WVU has a habit of recruiting these types of players and turning them into good O linemen. And they put a decent number of them in the league. This kid probably is worth a shot, but it is disappointing that we are having to reach for projects this late in the process. We have to hope he pans out.

"Their blood has been orange their whole life. My grandparents are diehard Vol fans and all of my aunts are and pretty much my whole mom's side of the family is excited about it," Niehaus said. "When I was growing up I always liked Tennessee. I always had a Vols coat or sweatshirts. I just think it's pretty cool that I've followed them my whole life and now I'm deciding whether or not I should go. "When we turned in our kid pictures for senior night my mom had a couple of pictures of me when I was in Tennessee stuff, like jackets and sweatshirts."

"It's something I will remember forever. I know it's not bigger than the other ones, but in the back of my mind it is," Niehaus said. "Back in the summer my mom wanted me to go to Tennessee's camp and I think she talked to a student assistant and they told her I was on her radar and I didn't even think they knew who I was. I'm just surprised how far I've come since this spring."

"I'm actually coming down this Saturday for practice," Niehaus said. "I know it's a junior day but they said I could come down and watch practice. This will be a huge thing for my cousin and I might bring him. We are going to come down Friday and stay with my family like we usually do and then go to campus on Saturday."

Niehaus, at 6-foot-6, 255-pounds, has played along the defensive front and at tight end throughout his high school career but this was the first full season he spent at tackle.

Yup. Hit the weight room hard and let's see what he's got in a couple years.

This kid probably would not see the field until his RS Soph year but he does seem to have a very high ceiling.. He is very athletic with really solid footwork and his tape makes it clear he enjoys contact and plays with a mean streak.. My initial response was ??? but I think he may be a solid project.. He also comes from a family full of VOLS

Tatum isn't anywhere near 255. He's actually closer to 235-240. There's one power 5 school close to us that sees him as a blocking TE and not a tackle at all.

I definitely hope we get this kid.

(1) He's 6'6" with long arms,
(2) He has a prototypical Offensive Tackle body,
(3) He has a nasty streak and passion like few others,
(4) He can play both Tight End and Offensive Tackle,
(5) He will only be 17 years old at graduation, so he's playing with a bit of a disadvantage vs his peers in HS,
(6) His film is very impressive, and
(7) He loves UT!

So what if he's only 3 stars? So was Chance Hall, and he looked pretty good this year playing as a true Freshman. My guess is that Niehaus will start getting more offers once more evaluators start seeing him. He's already cleaned up in his local area getting offers from just about every FBS school in a 200 - 300 mile radius other than Ohio State.

And sure, he's not a 100% sure thing. The trainers will have to get him into strength & conditioning and bulk him up. But there's no such thing as a "sure thing" in recruiting. I'll take the kid with immense upside who is passionate about the game, rather than the kid with nice measurables but who isn't all that dedicated to their craft.

Yes.

Feed him red meat and gluten, and send him to Cherokee National Forest during his redshirt year to fight black bears and mountain lions. When he returns, domination. It'll be somethings resembling the movie "300."
