"Their blood has been orange their whole life. My grandparents are diehard Vol fans and all of my aunts are and pretty much my whole mom's side of the family is excited about it," Niehaus said. "When I was growing up I always liked Tennessee. I always had a Vols coat or sweatshirts. I just think it's pretty cool that I've followed them my whole life and now I'm deciding whether or not I should go. "When we turned in our kid pictures for senior night my mom had a couple of pictures of me when I was in Tennessee stuff, like jackets and sweatshirts."
"It's something I will remember forever. I know it's not bigger than the other ones, but in the back of my mind it is," Niehaus said. "Back in the summer my mom wanted me to go to Tennessee's camp and I think she talked to a student assistant and they told her I was on her radar and I didn't even think they knew who I was. I'm just surprised how far I've come since this spring."
"I'm actually coming down this Saturday for practice," Niehaus said. "I know it's a junior day but they said I could come down and watch practice. This will be a huge thing for my cousin and I might bring him. We are going to come down Friday and stay with my family like we usually do and then go to campus on Saturday."
Niehaus, at 6-foot-6, 255-pounds, has played along the defensive front and at tight end throughout his high school career but this was the first full season he spent at tackle.
