It sounds like this guy is going to commit this weekend

It sounds like he's going to commit on the car ride down...before he even hits campus.

But really, I like the idea of this kid. A bit of a project but a lot of upside. Plus I like seeing a kid play for his dream school.

Oh yea, well I bet he'll commit before brushing his teeth tonight! :p

Yes.

Feed him red meat and gluten, and send him to Cherokee National Forest during his redshirt year to fight black bears and mountain lions. When he returns, domination. It'll be somethings resembling the movie "300."

Or Deliverance... Hopefully 300

I don't remember anyone wrestling a black bear or mountain lion in Deliverance. Only thing i remember being wrestled was a pig....and I'm not even sure that was a real pig...although it did squeal like a pig. :birgits_giggle:

After that family story I know he needs to be a Vol. Really good project T with upside.

There are some really good TE to OL converts. Aaron Douglas was great here before he left the program. Former Vol commit Eric MacLain, that Dooley told we didn't need, was first team all ACC this year on the OL.

Dooley dropped MacLain a top 75 player nationally and added Alan Posey. MacLain loved Tennessee and would have crawled over the mountains to play here. MacLain committed to Fulmer stayed committed through Kiffin and Dooley doesn't even call him.

Another example of Dooley missing several chromosomes

I like this. Kid with a massive frame who at best could end up a protypical OT or at worst comes in as a blocking TE in certain situations. Both have value to the team and are worth a scholarship.

6'7 with a mean streak? Yes please. Although I'd like to see more pass blocking in his highlights and less cheap shots. I really wish he could EE. He needs to be in the weight room ASAP. People were also worried about Chance Hall's ranking. That turned out just fine.

This has been brought up a lot recently, and I'm pretty sure I'm not wrong...

Dooley told him he would be a OT, not TE. He didn't like that. Clemson told him TE, so he bounced... And became an OT anyways

Did he dive at a defensive players ankle? That's a cheap shot.

knocking somebody on their rear end who isn't paying attention is just education…

What is your assessment of this recruit?

l really like his potential. He is a not ready for prime time player that could turn out to be an all SEC lineman.

It seems we have gotten better at developing our linemen so in two years I could see this guy really contributing. He is a take.

I definitely hope we get this kid.

(1) He's 6'6" with long arms,
(2) He has a prototypical Offensive Tackle body,
(3) He has a nasty streak and passion like few others,
(4) He can play both Tight End and Offensive Tackle,
(5) He will only be 17 years old at graduation, so he's playing with a bit of a disadvantage vs his peers in HS,
(6) His film is very impressive, and
(7) He loves UT!

So what if he's only 3 stars? So was Chance Hall, and he looked pretty good this year playing as a true Freshman. My guess is that Niehaus will start getting more offers once more evaluators start seeing him. He's already cleaned up in his local area getting offers from just about every FBS school in a 200 - 300 mile radius other than Ohio State.

And sure, he's not a 100% sure thing. The trainers will have to get him into strength & conditioning and bulk him up. But there's no such thing as a "sure thing" in recruiting. I'll take the kid with immense upside who is passionate about the game, rather than the kid with nice measurables but who isn't all that dedicated to their craft.
This post pretty much sums up my thoughts. Nasty streak, good frame and athleticism. That has the makings of a great tackle if he has some time to develop in the S&C program.

I think we're at the point where we can take a shot on a guy like this that will need 2-3 years to develop.

No knock against NN and he may turn out to be great, but the comments in this thread reek of Dooleyism.

When did he take a project that he didn't project as a first or second year starter?
