'16 PF NC Grant Williams (UT commit 11/13/15)

He has a high basketball iq and some nice skills. Just a little short for a big man. He will be solid for us.

For those who don't know, Grant performs exceptionally well against big competition, I can't remember the recruits name but Grant played against a 5* center and had a better game than he did; he also played on the AAU circuit against much better competition. I think BTO had the exact name and quotes.

Agree. Video looked like he had nice vision for a bigger guy too. If he can develop a consistent jumper and is able to be productive on the boards(at his height) he will be a lot better than his offer list indicated.

Great student and a younger kid with Father Time on his side to develop. Reasons to be optimistic about this one. He's also been very productive.

Article dated 2/26/15:

This season, Williams has gone head-to-head with some of the biggest names in high school basketball and proven his worth.

In the first week of the season, he faced Huntington (West Virginia) Prep’s 6-10 center Thomas Bryant, a McDonald’s All-American selection who has scholarship offers from the likes of Kentucky, Syracuse and Indiana. Williams put up 18 points against Bryant.

Next up was High Point Wesleyan Christian’s 6-10 Harry Giles, whose suitors include these four schools: Duke, North Carolina, Kansas and Kentucky. Enough said.

Williams gave Giles 23 points.

Finally, there was Hamilton Heights (Tennessee) highly touted junior Abdul Hakim Ado, who, like the aforementioned recruits, has big-time schools knocking on his door. Williams went to work against the 7-footer, finishing with 25 points and nine rebounds.

"Junior big man Grant Williams is slightly undersized for the post but is a physical manchild who’s also skilled."

This is pretty much my evaluation also. He can shoot some and pass the ball. Nice post moves. Killed Giles and Ado. If he was a legit 6'10 he would be a big time recruit. I think we got a steal.

Love his productivity. I like him more than fulkerson. I am usually more of a fan of productivity over projection

I definitely do too. I am trusting Barnes on Fulk. I like what I see with Williams though. I think he can be a Maymon type player with a better shot with some development.

will he play for UT in January? That newspaper article made it sound like his high school career was over...

@ebosshoops: For SEC new #Tennessee commit Grant Williams is a smallish power forward. Man is he tough, though. Chuck Hayes style player #PhenomShowcase

CoachHemphill: Providence Day 6'6 2016 Tennessee Commit Grant Williams finished with 7pts 11 rebs 1 assist in the loss to Mountain Mission

I'll take the Chuck Hayes comparison. He gave us fits at UK.

Bless his heart but Chuck was hilarious as a shooter. Hopefully Williams is a tad better.
