I'll need Palmer to fill in some more of the details but they didn't take one last year and they have Feaster this year but they may already be looking to add one more in addition to Feaster to compliment him.
It's misleading to say they didn't take a RB. Ray Ray McCloud will play RB for them even though he's listed as an ATH.
Palmer is up there with HG as to how to conduct oneself on a rival site. Some of those Georgia guys running around here could use this as an example as to how to navigate through the forum without catching a hammer.
Since we were just talking depth chart, I'd say that's a good place to start. I understand the angle that Tenn is selling with both guys being JR's, and it's a smart play to go on the offensive in that regard. The fact though is that Clemson is a better situation solely from a depth chart perspective. We didn't recruit a true RB last year (see above for Ray Ray reference) and Feaster would be the sole take this year. He'd also be the most talented back the minute he stepped on campus. I haven't followed Kamara much, but know he was a 5* guy and Hurd has the talent and experience that it wouldn't be hard to fathom Feaster being 3rd on the depth chart. That's simply not going to be the case at Clemson.
The biggest issue for Tenn, IMO, is you got to win Momma. First, as Clemson fan, I am very used to hearing the same thing as I'm going to hear here......Get Momma on campus and Butch (or in our case Dabo) will win her over. I get that and am not downplaying his ability or successes in that regard. But you can't go back 3 years ago and put Butch on the other side of Dabo and/or Jeff Scott (who just got promoted to Co-OC) for essentially all of his football games. With the proximity, and Clemson being his first offer over 2 years ago, the relationships run deep. For example, Tavien was at a camp 2 weeks ago during our biggest recruiting weekend (All-In Cookout), but his mom still drove up for it to spend time with the team and coaches. That speaks volumes, IMO.
My overall take on this is that these things aren't impossible to overcome. I do think you'll need to get him to decommit sometime in the next 1-2 months, and then obviously take an official visit (with momma). This is a very tight-knit family and overall community around him. I just can't envision a scenario where they leave Clemson holding the bag, which means you're probably going to have to flip him sooner rather than later.

It's in best interest of both sides to do something early if it happened. I don't think either side is willing to wait till NSD with the one back stance.
I agree it will be hard to pull from Clemson but I never underestimate Butch anymore. He has done so many things that came out of nowhere.
I'm interested to see how Clemson does without Chad Morris calling the O. Before him it was rough sledding.

Or even worse... one of those Mizzou fans I literally told to go **** himself because he came on here slinging insults, then became all incensed when people threw them back.
Thank you for the updates Palmer, I look forward to a constructive conversation with you as this situation unfolds, and wish you guys the best of luck. Whatever school TF chooses, it is very refreshing to be cordial with someone from another fan base.
Feaster is a must-have for this class. It seems to me like Holyfield, Fils-Aime, and Walker aren't seriously interested in Tenn. They have shown some desire, but it just doesn't seem to be all that intense. This class is very solid so far, but it is nowhere near as formidable as the past two years. I really hope we can secure a couple more top tier pieces and solidify a Top 12-15 class.
I realize that we can't be Top 5 every year as a rising program, but so far 2016 doesn't have the momentum at this point in the recruiting cycle that the last two yeas had.
