'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

True! The truth is he has that attitude I love. He will either use that attitude to be a beast or it will get him into trouble. He's a freak athlete and just needs the right coaches to control it in the right way. Dooley would never be able to do this, but Butch can. Lets hope his high school coaches can teach him this until he gets here. He loves the Vols and talks trash to anyone who doesn't .

So you love the attitude of someone who cusses out his coaches and quits on his teammates? And you love the attude of someone who puts himself in front of his other team/teammates, and tells that set of coaches what positions he is and is not going to play instead of doing whatever is best for the team? And on top of that, someone who, at this point, (unless he has a learning disability) either doesn't care enough to take school seriously or doesn't have the work ethic to earn 'good grades' in HS because HS is sooo tough. Yeah, what's not to love about his attitude?

Sorry to break it to you but a lot of these kids have an elitist attitude. The higher up you go in sports, the more you see it. It's part of what makes them good. No reason to be mad. I said it will either be reigned in or go out of control. Championship teams have lots of attitudes just like this.

I'm not mad at all, I just can't get my mind around loving that kind of attitude is all.

Please, not the whole "he is still young, don't pass judgment, 2nd-hand BS" angle.

I know VN has all kinds of rumors & BS constantly posted, but in some cases people actually DO have legitimate information. Especially, in this case. Middleton plays at a local Knoxville HS and VN obviously has tons of Knoxville-based members.

Just because the information isn't positive, doesn't mean it needs to be immediately jumped on & labeled BS.

I want Middleton to be successful & ultimately sign with UT just like all Vol fans do. And I believe he will. Not a bad kid & will be a great football prospect. He is just young.

But the recent concerns/information discussed in this thread are accurate. It is has been thoroughly and openly discussed amongst players & coaches from both Powell High School (where Middleton attends) & Fulton High School. These stories DO have merit. But Middleton is a great football player & will be a great Vol.

Do you really think I'm a "fluff everything UT" type of poster? Please. I'm sure a lot of people have connections to Powell, and I never said they didn't. You have your opinion. You can disagree with mine. That's fine. The dude is still 16, a sophomore in HS (not even yet), and we don't have to even really worry about him for 2 more years. So, please feel free to gossip about a 16 year old who may have attitude issues.

We may not have to worry about the kid being a TN recruit/commitment as he is just headed into his SO year of HS. I do hope his parent/s and or supporting cast are worried or concerned with his attitude/grades. People not worrying about these kids is the reason a lot of them get into their JR & SR year then wonder why their chance of getting into college is a pipe dream at best. When they realize that GPA is sitting at 0.9 and the ACT score is lower than the kids shoe size, it's a little late to worry then.

Are you freakin serious? Gossiping about young football players is the point of this whole forum. :) C'mon man. :) VolNation exists just for the express purpose of opining, and gossiping about the Vols, and everyone associated with UT sports.

I do not think that. Although I did quote your post, I wasn't trying to call you out or specifically address you. I was simply trying to get my point across.

And gossiping about a 16-year old? I absolutely haven't "gossiped" about anyone. If I have, please show me the post.

Someone originally posted information/speculation about rumors concerning Middleton. When other posters began to question this information, I posted what I know to be fact to back up the OP. It is that simple. Gossip is defined as reports about other people that typically involves details that are not confirmed to be true. This is a report that is confirmed to be true. Thus it is fact, not gossip.

But you are correct. He is just entering his sophomore year. No reason to worry about this recruitment or player ATP. I hope he has a great HS career and signs with the Vols ultimately.

:salute:

I agree with you that the kid has a long to go before we have to truly worry about him. All it takes is one good adult to show him the way. As I said before 3 years is a long time, but that doesn't change all the leaks out of the PHS' football program about him.

That said this is a forum about recruits, and he doesn't have immunity from negative discussion. If he does have immunity close this thread now, and let's re-open it when it is allowed for us to discuss information freely.

If he was a Bama verbal people would have zero issue with posters echoing these concerns.

He has been in HS for 2 semesters. Grades can't be a "problem" as far as college is concerned.

Come on, it was more about how they are currently trending.

Was this the Powell basketball team? I am trying to remember when summer workouts end. I know Football just started back up.

In my experience, kids generally push the limits allowed.

I also wonder how much the change in coaching at Powell has negatively effected him? Maybe if he has a good relationship with the Fulton coaches it might be best if he goes there.

In his defense I have heard nothing but good things about the kid before all this stuff came out.

I don't claim anything as factual, because in the end it is just hearsay. In my defense I heard a whole lot more, but in cases like this the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Powell, as many high school teams, plays in AAU tourneys during the summer. "Tryouts" are held before school gets out for the summer. Another "tryout" is held later in the fall, but rarely will a kid make the roster that didn't play with the team in AAU tourneys during the summer.

I think I can sum up the majority of posters thoughts on this issue. Darel seems to have a great passion for the Vols. He is blatantly open about his commitment and defends Tennessee and his decision publicly. We need guys like this. Guys that have a burning desire to play for UT and an even hotter desire to beat down our rivals.

That said there is a limit, and while he is young it is not wrong for us to take part in this discussion. The reports would be much more troubling if he were a 2014 recruit. I can look back at my own self and maturity level when I was heading into my sophomore year of high school (not too terribly long ago) and I can't imagine some of the boneheaded stunts I would have pulled had I been such an elite athlete already garnering SEC attention.

15 year old athletes are cocky. Without proper role models this can lead to problems. If a young athlete shows great maturity you usually don't have to look very far to find a strong supporting cast of adults who are responsible (parents, siblings, coaches, teachers). Extreme example being the Berry twins who recently stated their family kept them humble. We can only hope some people step up and harness this kids talent for his own good. Do I hope he continues to excel on the field and play ball at Tennessee? No doubt. But it would be much sadder for such a talent and opportunity to be lost due to circumstance than it would be for UT to miss out on an athlete in the 2016 class.

This went way longer than I expected so now I'm not sure I sum up everyone's feelings on the subject well. Basically, it seems something needs to change in this young man's life.

ps. And someone needs to fix the spell check on whatever device he is using to tweet.

I really wish Google translator translated Tweets in to English. I have no idea what that means.

Middleton said he was on the phone with Saban.

Someone replied "Ignore like @MrHurd18 did!"...

then Middleton said "my nams darel middleton 2016 committe im not worried about saban"

which means hes committed to UT and doesnt care for Saban
