I have known many High School coaches through the years, both elite and/or just your average high school coach. I can honestly say, I haven't known one that I ever got the impression would not give an honest assessment to a college program asking about one of their players. Especially if the young man has committed to that school.

High School Coaches should do everything in their power to help get these young men into a college football program. Everything but lie or withholding information about attitude. Tell it like it is and let the school recruiting the young man decide for themselves whether or not he is a take.

Most HS coaches will do the right things although I have known some who would not send film to a particular college if they held a grudge or had a total dislike for the school. I have heard statements made to the effect that Coach ------- can go t0 ___ if they think I will send a player to them.

I can agree with this. I have known a few that did carry a grudge with a particular school. Unfortunately sometimes it is the player who pays the ultimate price for coaches holding grudges. I knew of a coach that did this. I didn't know him personally, but had a chance to make his aquaintance and heard stories about him through other coaches. He held a grudge with a particular school and because of his relationship with the player, pretty much kept him away. Player chose a different school and was never really heard of again. The school that wanted him, but was left in the cold due to the High School coach's influence, was the school he was very much suited to play at. Would it have made a difference in the long run? We will never know. What I do know is sad though.

I just want to point out that a lot of these kids don't have a great home life. They never grew up learning basic manners and have learned to adapt to their situation. Some kids just have to be handled differently then others. If the young man doesn't respect his coach then yea it's a problem, but an even bigger problem is he probably doesn't respect many other people either such as his teachers. Football is grand guys, but living a great life is even more grand. It sounds like this young man needs a role model to help him get on track in the class room and on the field.

And a HS head football coach could step into that role IF the kid was willing to listen and not think he is better than anyone speaking to him. Sounds to me like the coach has tried to be there for him. At some point, what is better for the team is more important.

Dang it LV. Just when I start getting used to arguing with you, you start posting things I agree with 100 %.

I don't know if its been mentioned but the coach at Powell is new and I've heard him referred to as a "kid". I don't know him and don't mean to judge but I have to wonder if the coaches young age may have something to do with his lack of respect from this kid. I don't recall issues with him last year.

You are 100% off base here. Coach Kilgore keeps the best interests of every player on his team in mind first and foremost. Since you don't know him it is best not to even infer that he is in the wrong because you would be absolutely incorrect.

That's why I said I didn't know and asked it as a question. I don't know the coach and couldn't pick him out of a line up. But I've heard him referred to as a kid so it was not out of the question that his age could be an issue here. I can't be 100% wrong if I didn't make a statement.

He must be like the best human ever then.

I am hearing that Darel has a list of things from the coach that he has to accomplish before reinstatement can occur. I hope this young man can turn this around and learn from it. He's an incredible athlete and has a bright future if he gets his head in the place.

You are correct. He won't be playing at the jamboree tonight, and his status going forward is still up in the air. I sure hope he gets focused. He's an incredible talent.

+1 maybe this will be a wake up call.

(Oh and I gave you your first "like"...It's always fun being someone's first). :)

Edit: now someone came and liked the same post after me. Who got sloppy seconds?

you don't post often, but when you do it is good info.

From what I understand, if Darel plays his cards right and does what he's being asked to do, he could be back with the team next week in time for their opener. But of course, that's easier said than done. There's been some friction between him and the new staff, so it'll be interesting to see how things play out.

They need him. The battle with Fulton is shaping up to be a good one. I'll be there.

If I were a betting man I'd say Darel will play against Fulton even if he doesn't complete a "list" of things before he can be reinstated on to his team. The head coach knows how big of a game this is and it's the coach's first career game as the head man. And did I mention it is gonna be on tv? Darel will "complete" the list (sarcastically) on Wednesday. He will play.
