'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

Not trying to pile on, but this kid has a head the size of a watermelon right now, thanks to the UT scholly/commitment and everything that has come with it. He thinks that everyone watching Powell is only interested in watching him, which is painfully evident in his tweets. :bad:

That's a shame if true. I have to wonder who if anyone is guiding him. He needs a big dose of humble pie. Always makes me smh when I see these kids throw away opportunities by being stupid.

Your guess is as good as mine. No idea what this kid is thinking. For whatever reason, he is convinced that this coaching staff wants him to fail. Plus, he thinks the whole world wants to see him play Fulton next week and shouldn't have to sit out at all.

Bottom line - he's just not willing to follow directions or take orders. He's got a lot of growing up to do.

Went to school and played football at Powell. I dont follow them much anymore as I'm in Nashville but the friends that I have that do say this kid definitely has his head in the clouds. Suspended for today's Fulton game for threatening to whip a coach. As they say, tifwiw.

If I as a teenager was held to the same level of scrutiny then that these young recruits seem to be now, I would have ended up in jail.

I was raised pretty much no nonsense. My parents made it very clear that if I wanted to spend my time after school playing football(or any sport), I had better stay out of trouble, not miss school, and I had better not get anything lower than a C in any class. If I did, I knew I would not be playing ball. It's one of those things at the time it seemed rough, looking back on it I'm glad they did it.

Maybe getting beat 46-0 in a game broadcast live on local t.v. will be the ingredients in that humble pie you speak of.

Oh trust me, there is no judgment from me. I was all over the place when I was this kids age.

Looking back, when I played football in high school I thought I was something special.

I guy said one time that he couldn't believe I didn't play in college. I said... "Hell, if I had had $5 for every time I was asked that, I'd have at least $10 or $15" LOL

Gotta be a team player to feel the pain from a thumpin like this, hope he will not be seen laughin about it. He needs direction from somebody bigger than him.

It looks like Darel Middleton is looking to transfer to CHS now. Knoxville Central High. At least according to his most recent tweets.

I graduated from CHS. Would like to see them gain another top athlete. Also, former HS of current UT WR Cody Blanc & MLB 1B Todd Helton.

Of course, I think all this transfer talk is premature at this point. I'll believe it when I see it.

Also, alma mater of first-year Powell head coach Tobi Kilgore and DB coach Cassen Jackson-Garrison.

Darrell Middleton, SO at Powell High School, is suspended for the first two game of the Powell's season.

Middleton has a ton of talent, but has a horrible attitude and is lazy. His horrible attitude has gotten him in hot water with the coaches. He was injured and was not practicing and decided to sit in the stands and talk on his phone. When the HC told him to come down to the field and turn off his phone, Middleton didn't obey at first. The HC told him again and the third time, you can imagine the HC was not happy. They got into an argument and Middleton allegedly threatened the coach. Also allegedly said the only reason anybody comes to watch Powell play is because of him. I say allegedly, because I did not hear first hand but heard from multiple parents who were at the practice.

He's a great talent, but his attitude has a long way to go. Right now, he's one of those guys with a lot of talent, but no character or determination. I hope he grows out of this and this is a wake up call for him. Otherwise, UT shouldn't waste a scholarship on him.

He has steps he has to complete before he is reinstated. Just wanted to give you guys an update as I've seen other boards asking how he played last night. He looked good in street clothes. :)

And, before anyone says anything, we didn't get thumped because Darrell didn't play. We were outmatched, outcoached and outplayed. Middleton would not have made a difference at all.

Sounds his dad needs to kick in squarely in the ASS

I'm from Powell. Went to Powell 1-12. Yes, I graduated from Powell. Kids go/went to Powell. I hope that Fulton is that good because if not my Panthers are in for a long season.

As for Middleton, I hope he gets it turned around. Heard UT called to check on him and they were told the whole story. His offer is in jeopardy.

Pulling his offer may be the best thing that could happen. The UT coaches need to tell the kid he needs to sit down and decide if he wants to play football anymore. Make him get himself right before he can call himself a Vol commitment again. The kid could be a great talent if he gets his head on straight.

I don't know the kid, but pulling the offer might work or it could back fire. It depends on the kid's personality. My major concern is his current teammates at Powell. He has had a negative impact on his teammates and the new coaching staff. If it wasn't for his talent, he would have been long gone.

I hope by the time our boys get to play for Powell they are back on top again. I am worried about the next couple of seasons. It sucks if not, because they sure did put up with a lot in the Knox Co League.

I would not pull his offer. Some kids have no respect for their peers because their peers are nowhere near their talent level (not saying its the right thing, just the way it is). I bet once he comes here and gets his butt kicked by upperclassmen, his attitude will change real quick.

Come on Darel, realize what you got and be humble. Got a chance bunch of kids pray and wish for, you can do it brotherman!! We all want to see that amazing talent in Orange and for you to be successful in Life!!

Unless he changes, I bet when he gets to UT and realizes he isn't as good as he thought he was, he quits. He's only good because of his size. Against SEC teams that are as big and quick as him, he's in for a rude awakening.

This isn't an issue of him respecting his peers, it's an issue of him respecting authority. Big difference.
