'16 TN OL Ryan Johnson (UT Commit 7/19/14)

He informed Tennessee coach*Butch Jones’ staff of his decision Friday night.

“I Skyped him last night, and the whole coaching staff was there, and everybody was really excited,” Johnson said. “That was pretty cool. Everybody was clapping. I mean, they were unbelievably excited.”

Johnson visited the Vols a half-dozen times in a span of a little more than four months, and he said he quickly realized that Tennessee is “home to me, and it just felt like the right choice.”

“Definitely, I like the coaching staff,” said Johnson, who has been told that he will play offensive tackle for the Vols. “That was one of my favorite things.*Coach ‘Mo’ (offensive line coach*Don Mahoney) in particular, I really liked him, and I really liked how he coaches.”

He admitted he’s already excited about his future at Tennessee and the direction of the program under Jones’ staff.

“I think the program’s going to be improving this year, especially with the recruiting class that they got for 2014. I think that’s really important. I think they’re going to make a huge difference,” Johnson said.

“Before my career’s over, I’m going to be putting rings on my fingers.”

"Johnson is very long and athletic for his size and has put on a lot of good weight since the end of his sophomore season. He bends well and has a great reach. He also has a bit of a mean streak in him. Because of his length, he's still grown, and his strength and athleticism, he runs the 400 in track along with a few other events, I really think he has a big ceiling.

...the Vols are getting a guy that wants to be at Tennessee and will work extremely hard to help them be back where the fans want them. You can't get enough of those guys when they are elite prospects. Just wanted to provide a few thoughts."

Seriously!? A guy this big running the 400 has to be a sight to see lol. I wonder how competitive he is? It speaks well of his fitness and athleticism.

Edit: oh yeah BOOM!

Hell yeah. Love seeing these big time instate guys jumping on board early. Welcome to the family Ryan!!!! Gbfo!

This is UT's next great Left Tackle... This is massive. These are the type talents that Bama locks down year in and year out on the O-Line. And a mid-state kid! The pieces are coming together to have a high quality product in every position group.

BOOM!

BOOM! :focus: Great Pick Up! We are getting a great jump on the 2016 in-state kids. To get these in-state guys locked so early is a huge advantage

Every time we get a good in-state talent I pop over there real quick and see the sour grapes just for fun... That guy SumnerCountyDore always calls out Mason, usually saying I guess this 4-star talent doesn't "fit Mason's system" .. Super sarcastically. It's great. The blue font hasn't made it's way over there tho.

Unbelievable that Mason didn't offer this kid.

What the hell is he doing?

Based on their current class, my guess would be that he is desperately trying to put together a decent '15 class and has no idea who his '16 targets are at this point. That's a huge mistake of course but their current class needs his focus badly atm. JMO.
