If there is one thing Butch Jones has tried to accomplish from a recruiting perspective since being hired at Tennessee, its owning the home state. After inking five of the top six in-state prospects in 2014 and already having two of the best committed in 2015, the Volunteers are off and running in 2016 with ESPN Junior 300 offensive tackle Ryan Johnson.
Significance of impact: Getting No. 273 overall prospect Johnson out of Brentwood Academy before the first game of the 2014 season is another key win for Jones and staff. The Nashville area has been especially fruitful for Tennessee since the 2014 class, and that now includes six ESPN 300 prospects with Johnson further driving home the perception that the area's top prospects are heading to Knoxville.
What he brings: Johnson is a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle who has the frame to carry 300-plus pounds and is just now beginning the process of filling out his frame. He is an athletic prospect on the offensive line with long arms and second-level ability.
Strength of commitment: This one is solid as oak. Johnson comes from a family of Tennessee fans and has been attending games in Neyland Stadium since he was a small child.
Percent chance of the commit holding: 95 percent
Biggest threat: None. While Johnson camped at Alabama in mid-June and earned a verbal offer, even the Crimson Tide finished a distant second in the race to secure his commitment. It would take a significant event or chain of events for Johnson to not ink with Tennessee.
