'16 TN OL Ryan Johnson (UT Commit 7/19/14)

Very good pickup. Hubbs and Fortenberry had extremely high praise for the kid. Both for his ability and his character.

We started the '15 class off with 2 instate linemen (Jones and Stewart). Let's lock up Bryce and get the '16 class going.

Yup. Bryce IMO is next on the OL for 2016.

would be great to get in good with Brentwood Academy...too many have found their way to AU for way too long... now if we can get all the players we want out of Ensworth,we will really hit a homerun...

Young man reminds me of Charles McRae. Hope he is as mean between the out of bounds stripes.

He has to be pretty athletic, running the 400 M is the toughest track event. Run as fast as you can 1 full time around the track. Great to see he is an OT.

ehh he looked really good in his peewee highlight tape against the Little Giants, but he was just so arrogant. I was really impressed with his ability to move refrigerators by himself, though.

Some quotes from a free article on Scout.

"Tennessee is my home state and the University of Tennessee is my home school,” Johnson told a Nashville radio station Saturday morning. “I’ve been rooting for them ever since I was able to say ‘Go Big Orange.’ My first game was when I was 3, so I watched Tennessee beat the crap out of Vanderbilt. That was my first game when I was 3-years-old. So, I’ve been rooting for them my whole life."

"I think they really like me especially for their style of offense because our school runs a fast-paced offense,” Johnson said. “It’s very similar to Tennessee’s. So, I think I would fit in very well with Tennessee’s offense.”

I went to school with Ryan's Father, Tyke, at Hixson High in Chattanooga. Congratulations Ryan and Tyke.

Tyke - I know you are proud of your son.

Go Big Orange!

The 400 is no joke for a 200 pound sprinter. Running it in 56 seconds at 270 pounds is freaking insane.

From ESPN Insider about Ryan's commitment...

If there is one thing Butch Jones has tried to accomplish from a recruiting perspective since being hired at Tennessee, it’s owning the home state. After inking five of the top six in-state prospects in 2014 and already having two of the best committed in 2015, the Volunteers are off and running in 2016 with ESPN Junior 300 offensive tackle Ryan Johnson.

Significance of impact: Getting No. 273 overall prospect Johnson out of Brentwood Academy before the first game of the 2014 season is another key win for Jones and staff. The Nashville area has been especially fruitful for Tennessee since the 2014 class, and that now includes six ESPN 300 prospects with Johnson further driving home the perception that the area's top prospects are heading to Knoxville.

What he brings: Johnson is a 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle who has the frame to carry 300-plus pounds and is just now beginning the process of filling out his frame. He is an athletic prospect on the offensive line with long arms and second-level ability.

Strength of commitment: This one is “solid as oak.” Johnson comes from a family of Tennessee fans and has been attending games in Neyland Stadium since he was a small child.

Percent chance of the commit holding: 95 percent

Biggest threat: None. While Johnson camped at Alabama in mid-June and earned a verbal offer, even the Crimson Tide finished a distant second in the race to secure his commitment. It would take a significant event or chain of events for Johnson to not ink with Tennessee.

Solid as oak. Awesome.
