'16 TN WR Nate Johnson

i think he caught 6 td passes in the semifinal... wow
2 in the final, was double teamed entire game

But, but, but ... he's from Tennessee and there are so many others better than him. lol.

I posted before this, but it was clear with him even with SCHS having safety help over top that he was the real deal. It helped him having a good QB that could get him the ball so he could show case what he could do.

The coaches wait on some recruits to play out their seasons to see how they fare against stronger competition. Nate got it done with much upside.

So you are telling me that this kid's film just got discovered by our coaches? With as many elite WR prospects we are in on this cycle I find it difficult to believe that there isn't a dual motive to offering this late in the process.

Also, I am no film expert but in a few areas it looks as though his film is abnormally fast, like purposefully sped up fast. Just my assessment though.

I've never seen one play from the kid. It just sounded like you think Jones just takes a no talent token TN kid each year without acknowledging the real contributors.

Since we're getting homegrown quality it makes no sense to take a no talent to maintain relationships.

Same thing literally everyone says that have seen him live

I agree he is a Perry type kid that is really a pure receiver, where Perry has some RB in him. He's the kind that will take a slant or crossing pattern and leave the secondary grabbing air.

I talked to a few people that saw both he and perry and they all said this kid a significantly better. Maybe the offense he is in helps that but that is still what is being said

I understand your point.

We live in Sevier County. My wife is a SCHS alum. Nothing would have been better than for them to beat Independence and for Deuce to outshine Nate and Independence, even though we knew it would be tough. It was over in the first quarter. Nate was the clearly the top football player on the field over Deuce or anybody else.

Bruin, that offense is amazing to watch in terms of discipline by the whole team. The O-linemen have next to no body fat, but are good sized for HS. They come off the ball low and fast. The backs hit the gaps the same way. It is precision like Navy or GA Tech only they run the spread and throw it all over the place. You literally could see the defenders eyes get wide open trying to figure out where everybody was going. The D is just as disciplined.

Nate does not belong in the Bruce, Perry, etc. category. I watched Bruce in a few games and Perry in one. Bruce was an undersized RB and may have converted to D or slot. Perry has more natural ability than Bruce at RB and can probably become a good slot/returner. Nate is a pure receiver with moves and quickness that resemble one.

I'm an SCHS alum as well and he looked really good in that game. What year did your wife graduate?

Would saying he is similar to josh smith be fair?

That's my impression

Indy was beating Blackman 42-14 in the 4th quarter last year.

Coach put JJ at Safety because we couldn't stop the pass. He made plays like crazy and shut Indy down.

Blackman won 43-42 in regulation.

That offense is crazy good though.

JJ is a real man. He simply has to be on the field more. He goes to the NFL for sure if they make a safety out of him, but I still want to see him on offense. He needs to play.

If he is anything like Josh Smith I am glad we offered.

I think you will be. In HS lately it has been get the ball in his hands and wave good bye. He will have to work harder at the next level like Josh did. If he does he will be a starter down the road IMO.

Had 87 receptions for 1,710 yards & 28 TDs this season, 62 catches for 1,290 yards & 17 TDs last year.

On a side note, someone's going to get a steal by signing Independence QB Andrew Bunch.

Heard them taking ab this guy on 104.5 along with the qb from Independence the other day. Callers and the hosts were raving ab how developed both were, and they were very high on Nate Johnson. Good to see we offered him. We need some quality wideouts, and the fact that he's in-state is even better. And the post on page 1 ab him being polished is exactly what they were saying ab him on the radio.

Per P Fort

Quite a busy few 48 hours on the recruiting trail. First off, the Tennessee offer to Nate Johnson out of the Midstate and certainly worth watching. Although, in talking to him tonight he said he would still take official visits to Miami, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Penn State all in January. He knows that will be a tight squeeze but added he will talk to Tennessee about taking one as well.

I'd like to see him go to to MTSU...MTSU has the potential to become a power (relative) in the C-USA along with Marshall. It's a shame he doesn't have more offers bc he seems to have what it takes to succeed at the next level. He should start seeing some FCS offers roll in over the next few months. I know this is highly unlikely, but he'd be a fun qb to watch in Leach's system at Washington State.

And I apologize for the two posts in a row, but I wanted to get my 2 cents in on Bunch as well.
