Matthews said he didn't want to go into detail on why he's no longer committed to the Tigers, but said he has a top three now of Tennessee, Purdue and Kansas.
JUCO running back no longer committed to Auburn | AL.com

Rushed for 1,752 yards & 26 TDs his senior year at North Jackson HS, averaging 11.2 ypc. In two years at Itawamba CC he tallied 1,453 yards & 9 TDs rushing on 184 carries (7.9 ypc), also had 28 receptions for 367 yards & 5 TDs.

While aware of our RB depth, I still don't see us signing four in this class and IMO, we don't need to.

If he has a spot and it's between those three he'll probably pick us. Wonder if the coaches prefer him to Coleman or, if others have suggested they think Coleman will move to LB

Why? Just curious. Especially when we have JK and CFA, and he won't be a starter. Rather have the Freshman and possibly redshirt

To me, i would rather have the experienced depth right now. If we thought all 3 freshmen were immediate contributors I would rather not take the juco. Basically under different circumstances I would agree with you but we need more than 2 RB on campus with college football experience.

Seems like we should be recruiting him as a Wide Receiver.

CFA didn't exactly stand out to me. I know he had very limited touches, but who knows if he will be a contributer at this point or not. Would much rather have Chandler, Matthews, and Jordan. At least with Matthews, you have a guy who can contribute immediately along with Chandler over Coleman who was likely to redshirt this season anyways.

If I remember correctly, the thing that stood out on CFA was his straight line speed. He doesn't seem to be a guy who breaks tackles. Going to have to figure out how to get him in space

I've seen it noted as academic concerns from the AU side. Some say he may not qualify.

What was CFA supposed to do? He played behind Kamara, Kelly, and Hurd all year. I mean really what do you want to happen?

I mentioned he only saw limited action. Therefore, the jury is still out on him. However, with Kelly in 2015 he showed flashes of greatness in the limited time he saw on the field. I didn't really see anything like that from CFA this season. He could end up being a great back, just saying we don't know how he'll pan out yet.

I actually really like this kids film I'd be ok with him replacing Coleman or Jordan, I actually like his film better than Jordans but that's just me. Plus I agree it's good to have an upper class guy with experience.

Is he a 2for2 or 3for3?

Come on, man. Kelly had 40 rushes his freshman year and CFA had 14.

You must have a great eye if you can watch 14 plays and question a kid's entire career going forward.

Interesting....

Vols To Host Top JUCO Athlete | Rocky Top Insider

Finding additional help at running back has been an adventure in the 2017 class for Tennessee, but there’s a last-minute development that might give the Vols another intriguing option.

Junior college running back Octavius Matthews, who recently decommitted from Auburn, will reportedly visit Knoxville this upcoming weekend – the final weekend before National Signing Day on Feb. 1. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder is an Alabama native who has been playing at Itawamba Community College, where he rushed for 645 yards and five touchdowns on 90 carries during his sophomore year in 2016.

Matthews, who is ranked as the No. 1 junior college athlete and the No. 26 junior college prospect overall by the 247Sports Composite ranking, tweeted that his finalists are now Tennessee, Kansas and Purdue. Matthews doesn’t have a Tennessee offer as of Thursday evening, according to his 247Sports profile.

The other question is where does recent Auburn de-commitment Octavious Matthews fit into the equation? As of Thursday evening, it was clearly not for sure that Matthews would visit. Again, the question is how would Tennessee make room for Matthews if he wanted to come.

JK is a Jr.
CFA is a So.
Chandler, Coleman, and Jordan will be Fr.

RB is a position where younger guys can contribute. I'd rather take the younger guys that have been committed for a long time.
