Vols To Host Top JUCO Athlete | Rocky Top Insider

Finding additional help at running back has been an adventure in the 2017 class for Tennessee, but there’s a last-minute development that might give the Vols another intriguing option.

Junior college running back Octavius Matthews, who recently decommitted from Auburn, will reportedly visit Knoxville this upcoming weekend – the final weekend before National Signing Day on Feb. 1. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder is an Alabama native who has been playing at Itawamba Community College, where he rushed for 645 yards and five touchdowns on 90 carries during his sophomore year in 2016.

Matthews, who is ranked as the No. 1 junior college athlete and the No. 26 junior college prospect overall by the 247Sports Composite ranking, tweeted that his finalists are now Tennessee, Kansas and Purdue. Matthews doesn’t have a Tennessee offer as of Thursday evening, according to his 247Sports profile.

Jones would be impressed by these highlights, looks a lot like Kamara

Writing a line, when you just need a line to fill in space for your article.

It's been no adventure. Coleman early, stellar back in Chandler mid-way, and a recent pick-up of another player. What's so "adventurous" about that?

A push this late for Matthews has me wondering about CFA's future here.

What? Lol! He's #2 on the depth chart at this point. He isn't going anywhere, especially with Scott being the OC now.

I think that is Jordan's shoes to fill long term and maybe CFA's short term.

I actually really like this kids film I'd be ok with him replacing Coleman or Jordan, I actually like his film better than Jordans but that's just me. Plus I agree it's good to have an upper class guy with experience.

Is he a 2for2 or 3for3?

Yeah Jordan ain't getting replaced at this juncture.

jk is a jr.
Cfa is a so.
Chandler, coleman, and jordan will be will be recruiting for tennessee every friday.

Rb is a position where younger guys can contribute. I'd rather take the younger guys that have been committed for a long time.

He has a super odd stride, kinda runs like McFadden. He has some speed though....

I have watched his film twice now. What are you seeing? I see a slight bobble when he lengthens his stride, but nothing I would call super odd.

There isn't a late push. He may not even visit

He decommits from AU and scheduled a visit with us for today. It seems like a push even though we have not extended an offer yet. So there is definitely interest maybe not a push.

Why did he decommit from Auburn?

Is he really visiting?

Why is Kansas and Purdue the other two teams to beat?

I will try to answer:
Didn't want to go to Auburn.
Waiting on Ron to see if he actually makes it in for a visit.
I have not heard that Kansas and Purdue were the teams to beat. Where is this information coming from?
