'17 AL QB Bubba Thompson

Well I honestly believe he can help lead us to a 9-3 or 10-2 record again next season as a freshman. Also I could see him winning a heisman here before its all said and done. Kids measurables are just off the charts

I've tried to stay low key after what I saw because you never know how a kid will do when he moves far away from home and college life begins. Everything I hear is that he's done the work and continues to do what he should to earn the team's respect as their future leader. I will be fascinated to see how it plays out in SP and fall camp with him and QD. QD is also a lot better than what some are saying on here. Different style totally. But he can spin it and never gets rattled. We are blessed with both. I think any offensive staff changes will tell us the direction they are leaning.

He is quicker/faster than MM, throws harder, is equally accurate, and is physically shorter than MM by a couple of inches and weighs a good amount less. He will make plays that probably would not ordinarily be made. He just needs maturity and experience. Hope he can add some more good weight to help him take the hits. MM got to play in the less physical PAC 12. SEC D's are brutal.
Hopefully he has the same knack Dobbs has and never lets anyone get a clean hit on him. Nick Marshall and Manziel had it too in recent memory and that would help him stay healthy throughout the season

He's a big speed, raw, no pop bat. He isn't going in the top ten rounds. He would only miss fall ball, I've done this myself.

He's a top ten round pick out of high school if signable . Scouting buddy told me 5th-7th round is where he has him turned in at. Potenial first rounder if he develops the bat in college. 300k guy already.

He wouldn't be able to play baseball in the summer either if he is serious about football. If he isn't we shouldn't be recruiting him anyway

One scouting buddy does not mean he's a top ten round guy. The discrepancies in high school player opinions is massive among scouts.

True. To add to that he told me a few organizations that value HS kids more than his have him turned in higher.

It all depends on his signability which at this point it looks unlikely that he will sign out of HS.

Yeah, not gonna argue with Bruin

Not arguing at all. Would love to know your baseball background?

You see the Value in the ABs I am suggesting are too valuable to give up for a raw hitter?

It's really, really easy to get ABs. He could get dozens a day, year round in the cage.

I also don't particularly buy you having a "scout buddy" and I definitely don't buy your "scout buddy" knowing where other "scout buddies" have this kid pegged. Doesn't make a bit of sense.

Nothing he says makes a bit of sense.

Speak for your self I can't lose my beer gut

Instead of owning your inconsistency, you choose to deflect with 3rd grade level insults. I expected nothing less. Sick burn though.

Listen, I am a negative Nancy when it comes to recruiting. Its just how I am. I think on the negative side, then when something good happens in recruiting, its that much more exciting for me.

I will continue to complain about 3* talent until its proven that the teams winning championships are having classes where the majority are 3*.

Tennessee plays in the SEC with teams like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU and TAMU. We have to consistently recruit at a high level to compete. Its just a fact. I wish it werent true but it is. So maybe you can understand when some get upset when we consistently take 3* players and hope they become 5* talents instead of landing the more elite guys.

That my friend disqualifies you from commenting on a kids development in baseball with any kind of intelligence. There simply is no substitute for real live game at bats for hitters in terms of development. Why do you think MLB has such a long spring training?

You know they make 70 ft cages right? You know pitchers throw pens right? You know they make indoor mounds right?

The facility my guys use has 4 dirt mounds and 4 more turf mounds. I could have 8 (!) guys getting live ABs at once!! I would surely hope Bubba Thompson, a high high top pick (per your scouting community) playing baseball at the university of TN could find a way to get some ABs.

I've forgotten more about "a kids development in baseball" than you'll ever know about most topics besides speaking out the side of your neck.

To give an example; in goal line practice situations against the first team D from the 4 yard line. The O lined up in the spread. Thomas snapped the ball back low and on the ground. JG grabbed the ball, abandoned the play call, just shot through a gap between Thomas and Robertson, was tackled and stretched across the goal line before most of the D could even react. After the play the O-line nearly carried him off the field they were so pumped. That kind of instinct and quickness.

Another play in game like situations - pass play against tight coverage. In this case it was a 7-8 yard slant to the slot (Smith). It was so tightly covered there was about a 2-3 foot window low and inside to fit the ball in. It was a dart into the window that Smith caught, which is strange because he drops so many in games. Big league throw that requires good quick footwork and accuracy.

Indoor abs are worthless. Depth perception sucks and besides football season isnt over until January.

Played baseball my entire life. First I've ever heard of this.

In my experience, the best hitters were the ones that spent the most time in the cages.

Yes agreed they spend a bunch of time in the cage but we are talking about live ABs. Hitting inside live off live pitchers is no where close to as good as live game at bats.

First, I have no problem with you feeling that way. If focusing on the negative things in life and being perpetually miserable is your cup of tea, have at it. Just don't share that misery with everyone else in every single thread. You don't/won't ever approve of 3 star players. We get it. We don't need a constant snooze button of negativity every time one commits to us from you and the other Eeyores.

Second, I just see no purpose in your constant b!tching and moaning about recruiting, only to turn around and see you defending our future as a team and how we will be improved next year and beyond? Do you really not see how ridiculous that idea is if you don't trust and believe in the ability of the personnel in place to accomplish that idea? The two are mutually exclusive. Do you really trust that Butch Jones and the "greatest staff in America" are going to take a bunch of no-talent bozos and "coach 'em up"?

"In talking to several people this week, the feeling is Thompson's MLB Draft stock is pretty high. Now, we're not saying he's a first round guy or anything, but baseball scouts wouldn't be shocked if he made it into the third or fourth round come this summer.

What worries Tennessee about that is the gamble they would take if they made Thompson their quarterback in this class. With his stock that high, we're hearing he hasn't given anyone a firm commitment that he would be a football player no matter where he was drafted this summer.

If Thompson can't tell Tennessee that, we wouldn't be surprised if the Vols turned up the heat on Hendon Hooker and Jay Urich. We know both quarterbacks continue to listen to the Vols as of now and are mulling a possible visit.

We also wouldn't rule out Keytaon Thompson as someone who takes a look at Tennessee. Remember, he was very high on the Vols a few years ago before Hunter Johnson committed to Tennessee."
