'17 CT QB CJ Lewis (Former TN commit 7/23/16)

Not sure what folks want in arm strength. The first pass in his huddle highlight video appeared to travel 50-60 yards with PERFECT placement.

The first thing Lewis did on Sunday morning after announcing his commitment: Drive a couple hours to workout with some other Northeast quarterbacks.

“I have a drive that many don’t have,” he said. “I’m going to work my ass off to be the greatest I can be.”

Patience rewarded: Vols QB commit CJ Lewis drives unique path to Tennessee

Thanks for posting this, really good article IMO. A lot to like about this kid and the things he has to say.

I think he will be a very positive addition to the roster, interested to see how he will be perceived following his senior season. I have a feeling his stats and tape will be eye-opening, especially throwing to those two WRs.

Big fan of these quotes below, i'll be rooting for him.

“I thought I was going to commit to a couple other schools and be stress free and focused on the season. But I knew what I wanted and that was to be coached at the highest level and have no regrets.

“I didn’t want to have any ‘What ifs I went there?’ or ‘What if I did this?’ So I waited.”

Lewis called Tennessee “the best place” for him,” adding that despite months of adversity he wanted to go somewhere “where I feel uncomfortable, actually.”

Ha you act like they have even bothered to watch him. They pull up the recruit profile and see 3 stars immediately call suicide hotline then post here in hopes of being comforted. They ain't got time for film

And you still have reservations about his commitment?

I haven't shared an opinion about him one way or the other, but I am mildly concerned about the level of competition Lewis faces; it's pretty bad overall.

His stats last year were pretty decent, and I do like him as a prospect and am very impressed with his comportment. I think Cole Copeland was a significantly better player than Lewis was last year, but I know that doesn't always translate from HS to the SEC and I haven't seen either player in person like our staff has.

I fully expect Lewis' numbers to improved markedly this fall.

Won't swear to it but I think I read he has only been playing QB for one year! Upside is enormous with him and one thing for sure he has a great attitude! I will be pulling for this young man!

Dont you know that VN is the defacto experts when it comes to evaluating talent? I mean if VN says a QB lacks something to compete in the SEC then clearly that QB sucks. I personally think the guy has talent and for all we know could become the next great QB in the SEC. I am excited to see his development.

The more I read about this kid the more I like him. He has that inner drive combined with elite athletic ability. Good combo.

Like so often it happens with Butch commits I'm guessing that CJ has a really good senior season, picks up some big offers and gets bumped to a 4 star. And the same posters complaining now will be whining this winter about possibly losing him.

Rinse, wash, repeat. We see this occur every year. For the record, it's still July for everyone running to their fallout shelters due to the 2017 recruiting class.

I gotta agree. When I read about this kid, I get a Dobbseque feel. Something tells me he is going to be successful.

That's where you store something right? Like the glove comportment in your car?

Common sense ain't common bere. He's a QB with speed. Have you seen his film? Nice touch also. He has tools you can't coach, plus great upside. If he wasn't gonna be in the QB role, I doubt he would have committed so eary.
Actually, I did watch his film..at least one compilation. I saw plenty of talent and potential from him as a QB. And chill out, it's not like I was saying he's not SEC QB material...merely throwing a hypothetical out there. He is, imo, the perfect QB for this recruiting class as he'll have time to develop, and has the legs needed to run this offense (and yes, Dormady has some wheels to all the "well dormady is a pocket passer" bs starts).

You acting like there's no chance in hell he'll move to WR is putting common sense aside. Many talented QB's have converted to wideout buddy. Did you forget that Juan Jennings was a top DT QB out of hs and was recruited as a QB by UT. Yes, he did have prior experience in the secondary and as a wideout, but he has a killer arm. Based on hs film, he seemed to be able to put more zip on the ball than CJ along with better accuracy, esp putting the ball in tight spots...CJ does seem to be more skillful at putting touch on the ball on the mid-deep routes. Point is that a 4* DT QB is now one of our top WR's going into this season (imo), and I think he'll be playing on sundays in a few years. I wasn't saying CJ will be playing WR for us...just sayin' that it's a possibility and if you don't think that his size and speed haven't made the coaches think about the future possibility of him moving to WR if needed, you cray cray.
