'17 CT QB CJ Lewis (Former TN commit 7/23/16)

CJ has barely any tape or game time experience at QB (3 games his junior year). Butch must have liked what little tape he has on him and accepted an early commitment in case he blows up his Senior season.

Very similar situation to Carlin Fils Aime who was coming off injury his junior year and then blew up his Senior year. We accepted FilsAime though we were in a battle for 5* Tavien Feaster. Likewise, we are still awaiting news about 5* QB Emory JonesIf he does play lights out.

I am willing to bet we accepted his commitment banking off him having a stellar senior year and as insurance if EJ goes to Ohio State. Pending on how well he performs and where EJ goes will determine how hard we press for him to stay. Nonetheless, I dont think the staff will keep him as a depth QB if he has an average year..Still may not want ir be able to keep him if we get EJ since CJ will be getting more offers and more possible playing time if he plays lights out for his HS team.

From Steve Wiltfong on 247...

"The difference between Lewis and some of the higher-ranked guys is just consistency. As he continues to develop it will be interesting to see how good he can be. He has more talent than some of those guys we have ranked higher and certainly more upside when you look at his frame compared to some of the other cats"

Solid thinking. However, Emory Jones is an '18 recruit and we will keep CJ even if EJ picks the Vols.

Just watched his HUDL. Mobile QB that is accurate passing on the run.

The competition in that video looks bad. Very small players. Looks like a middle school. No knock on him though. He made some really nice plays.

People can bash me if they want, but his film looks a lot better than HJs. This kid can play. He doesn't look panic stricken when pressure comes. Sure he doesn't have a strong arm, but he has really nice touch, which is more important imo. Andy Kelly won a lot of ballgames for us with his less than stellar arm.

I'm pretty sure this kid is on the same team as 4* WR Tarik Black....who is a hell of a player and has been offered by everyone under the sun. I maybe wrong though.

I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say he doesn't have a strong arm. Wiltfong seemed impressed by his arm strength in the article posted earlier today.

It looked good from what I could see too. I was just going off what the professionals had said before. I assumed they could tell whether he had a good arm or not. I'm sure he doesn't have as big a arm as HJ, but I guarantee you he has more moxie.

Generally, when people complain about people whining, it is more with the tone of the content of the post and not necessarily that you have a differing opinion. You can respectfully post your opinion about anything, but many of the whiners have an agenda (I am not accusing anyone in this particular thread) and try to get their points across multiple threads. I think that this commitment took some of us by surprise, and I still think it is way too early to get rustled jimmies over the state of our class.

He has another 4* star WR as a teammate that is currently committed to ND. Believe his name is Holmes

We just think it's funny to see some posters on here thinking they know more about football and recruiting than the coaching staff when they probably haven't coached an game of football in their life. You make negative remarks? You get negative replies. Simple as that.

There's a lot of people not involved in agriculture who have an opinion of where the food supply should come from and how it should be grown. Lot of people not involved in politics who think they know the best way to run a city, state or country. Lot of people not involved in education who have an opinion on what and how kids should be taught. Same goes for sports. What's the point of coming to a message board if we're all going to post in the same way? That's a cult. Call the place Jonestown Dõs

There's a reason Butch and his staff are getting paid to do their job and not us. We can have an opinion on here but there's a difference between stating your opinion and constantly whining about the certain decisions Butch has made. Whether it's recruiting or football related, someone always has an negative smart remark. Butch is not stupid and he has ounces of pressure on his shoulders to meet fan expectations this season which I think he'll meet. If they think they know so much about being an head coach for the University of Tennessee, then why aren't they the ones with the headset on? That's what I can't seem to figure out. To act like Butch doesn't know how to do his job according to some "fans" on here, is just straight up comical.

Maybe because they're not interested in coaching? Simple. Enjoy another profession more, want more family time, etc. It's not like we all tried coaching but failed while Butch rose to the top and beat us out. Butch makes millions like you said, so he can put up with folks BS cause it's part of coaching. He doesn't need Berea's native son coming behind him fighting his battles post after post.

Yea, he also doesn't need a bunch of whiny asses trying to bite his head off everytime he makes a decision that they don't agree with. Works both ways buddy.

Stats for Lewis are hard to come by, but MaxPreps shows him (through Cheshire Academy's first 3 games) as 38 of 67 for 671 yards for 5 TDs and 2 INTs. I found partial stats for 3 other games, with Lewis 37 of 61 for 596 yards & 6 TDs. He passed for 50 yards as a backup QB his sophomore year, but he also rushed for 229 yards & 4 TDs on just 22 carries.

Cheshire Academy played an extremely weak schedule last year and finished with a record of 5-3 even though they had Connecticut's 2 top-ranked players in Black & Holmes.

Pricey school: tuition for a boarding student at CA is $54,400 per year while commuting students pay $37,930 a year.
