'17 CT QB CJ Lewis (Former TN commit 7/23/16)

Are you too obtuse to recognize a declarative post?
It was. :salute:

I must have missed the sea change in the English language when opinions weren't allowed to be included and/or implied in declarative statements.

Good thing I have butchna's eternal bounty of emoticons and dearth of substance to help me.

The vocabulary pissing contests are annoying. No one talks like that.

It's not about "allowed". Tho you don't seem to afford me the same liberty. And if he's declaring something? No, it's not credited as him uttering an opinion in an open ended discussion. And your emoticon and "no substance" strawman regarding myself is beyond tired. We mutually disrespect each other but your posts have yet to make anyone's life any better for having to get through them...so get over yourself.

What, I don't get a saluting emoticon to go along with that?

It's amazing how so many people take the stated opinion of a poster, and then blow it up to make it sound like a poster is implying that they know more than the coaching staff.

They are opinions, stated as so, based on limited information we have. I guess we could just say everyone is going to be awesome, because that is always the case, right?

No no no... we should NEVER state opinions or discuss these things on message boards!!!

I never understood the whole "I guess posters know more than the coaches" BS argument.

All you saying that nonsense were saying it when privileged child Derek Dooley got hired.

You all act like we should trust coaches on every prospect.

We've got a 3 star in Moseley who as a junior still looks like a 3 star he was projected to be.

Cam Sutton is probably the best pure CB I've watched at Tennessee personally. Being a 3-5 star wasn't going to change his talent level. He was recruited by Muschamp hard at Florida though so that should've been a sign.

These marginal guys should be questioned though. Kids like Lewis should DOMINATE this competition. His numbers should be crazy watching the talent he's playing against. He looks like a tall kid and that's it to me. He may be better but we'll see.

I agree. I think CBJ and his staff have, overall, done a great job of identifying "under-the-radar" prospects.

However, I just don't understand the Lewis commit, especially since we have limited numbers and needs elsewhere (e.g. ILB).

Two things. First, Butch ain't Dooley. Second, Lewis worked his tail off to get an offer. He came to camps at TN on his own dime and worked to get an offer. Butch must have seen something to offer him a spot.

Where was "opinion" stated here?

LEWIS is not playing a very stalwart level of competition on the CT academy circuit. And, he's not setting the woods on fire up there either. At his committment he was the 1200th, or something, ranked player in America. And, his stock has not risen since then. Frankly, like several other of our class of 17 commits, he's not a SEC championship caliber player.
Jerimiah Oatsval out of Nashville would have been a better choice. He plays in a higher strata of competition, ranks no lower than Fields, and he bleeds Big Orange. At least he'd be a vocal peer recruiter in Middle Tennessee.

You do realize that someone can give an opinion without using the word "opinion", right?

They didn't offer him on the spot. They brought in several under the radar QB's to their camp and decided after a few weeks which one to offer. And I think this one is likely contingent on him having a really good senior year and showing positive development throughout... There is definitely going to be a lot more turnover in this class IMO.

Maybe, but the coaching staff wouldn't offer him if they didn't feel he had potential

I watched a few of his clips, which are mostly him scrambling. He seems to move well--reminds me of a young Dobbs. I only saw him throw one pass--nice touch on a lofted ball down the sideline. A lot depends on whether he's got a decent arm or not--and I assume the coaches got a first hand look at that. It's also worth pointing out that he' not playing very good competition, it doesn't appear--private schools teams in Connecticut.

Tennessee has offered Bubba Thompson, an Auburn baseball commitment as a quarterback.

CJ Lewis lost his starting spot this fall at Cheshire Academy and it sounds like there may be a mutual parting of ways coming on that front.
