'17 FL CB C.J. Cotman (UT commit 7/20/16)

"Cotman (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) is a burner and a big-time playmaker on both sides of the ball at the high school level. He’s accomplished enough as both a receiver and a cornerback that there’s debate among the schools recruiting him as to which is the best fit. Some have offered him as a wideout, others as defensive back. Florida, for instance is among those that preferred him on offense.

Tennessee projects the speedster as a cornerback, which is where Cotman wants to begin his college career. It’s also easy to see him making a contribution in the return game with his speed, quickness and agility.

Cotman isn’t the kind of long cornerback that’s become a bit of a fad in recent years, but he has excellent instincts and ball skills and isn’t afraid to challenge bigger guys. On film he shows that he isn’t afraid to get physical and he has the kind of aggressive mindset you like to see in a player at that position.

In the current version of college football, the nickel-back position has more or less become a full-time spot, and Cotman’s skill-set could make him a nice fit in that role.

Cotman is just a dynamic athlete who immediately enhances this class from a pure speed and athleticism standpoint."

Was not expecting that. Would feel better if he was a 4 star but he has speed. Like the fact that he plays in Florida. At number 367 on the 247 composite I am not jumping up and down over this guy. Especially with the limited number of spots we have. Are we giving up on Gibbs?

Gibbs is a safety. OV has said UT is in good shape with Gibbs, and he is solid.

Really hope this one sticks, I definitely think our staff can find a place for him to succeed on this roster.

He's a 4* on ESPN.

Except in May he said UT, O$U, UNC and Ole Miss were recruiting him the hardest and at the top of his list. He said back then that us, UNC and O$U would definitely get visits in the fall. He was planning on waiting till NSD (and may still) so I don't see why there would've been much updates in the last 2 months.

Dude, the sites and coaches are surprised by this commitment. This is just an odd commitment man. The guy is a great player for sure, but he stated in his commitment that he wants to still be recruited lol. This makes no sense at all

Kid is fast. Looks like he is just jogging by people and then goes oh you want to get close then hits turbo. Toying with people

It sounds more to me like he wanted to go through the process and wait until the end to make an official decision but was worried about the limited spots and getting left out here so pulled the trigger early. Nice pick-up!

Is it the chicken or the egg? Can't coaches keep recruiting since players change teams? Only seems fair.

That is a great idea. I'd support it. Of course it starts with the coaches. Recruits know their spot is secure and the staff could secure their class by eliminating visits after committing. Win Win. Let's get on it.

Boom!!!!

Note:I normally use Font size 7 and bold for these booms. But since this is the wishy-washiest commitment ever, I went down to Font Size 1 and italics.
