'17 GA ATH Marquez Bembry (UT signee)

Yes, serious. Dews was slight, but iirc, he was 6'4 and around 200 lbs....Bembry is listed at 6'2, 201. And again, one has a rather large set of shoulder pads on, while the other one doesn't. Also, I think of Peyton Manning with and without shoulder pads. He has no shoulders either, looks completely different with and without.

I do not care about shoulder pads, face and arms are night and day. Dews looks like middle school kid.

Bembry was 217 while on visit, not that I'm in charge of his fan club- but Wiltfong said he would not be surprised to see him bumped to four star, FWIW.

247 also raised Holloman to a 91 grade (4 stars) based on Atlanta MVP performance. Our coaches and support staff don't miss many evaluations.

Don't care how bad the competition is in his film. He's a baller. He'll be a highly ranked 4 star with many more bigtime offers to come.

And they're approximately the same size. Not to mention that the pictures were taken at different angles as well. I'm not saying that Dews wasn't slight, he was. But to make a definitive statement comparing two guys' physical frames, when you literally can't see one of the guy's physical frame because he's wearing shoulder pads.....sorry, just can't agree, especially when, again, they're approximately the same height and weight.

Just my 2 cents:

Bruin is upset because the coaches didn't read his post a few months back alleging that we should let 3* kids commit to other schools and try to steal them late instead of taking commitments early and dumping them if they don't pan out.

Fwiw that was my response when we took the first 2 of these "under the radar" kids.

I am changing gears Bigtime now and I am really worried that this is a sign we really do need to take these kinds of kids. We have lost our luster in the state for some reason and there is zero momentum. I have to think the negative PR is apart of this.

Seems like to me we are now in a place we might need to go down this road when I had really hoped and really believed we were past it

So no this has nothing to do with my feeling about cutting kids loose. I think this a sign of very bad vibes

This kid is athletic, but I'm not sure about the position he will play. Wiltfong tweeted about LB. Thoughts?

What in-state kids that we've really wanted have we lost?

The biggest thing is we have zero committed leading the cheers like we have had in years past

We really need a leader to take the ourstate torch and carry it proudly. We are well past that point in the cycle

Calm the hell down, dude.

We are nowhere close to being past that point. It's March.

The Hurd class was led by........ wait for it.......

Vic Wharton.

The big time 5 star recruits are the ones that typically wait till later in the process. They typically have more options so they tend to weigh them more. Most don't decide at least until they've visited officially. When these in-state kids start committing elsewhere that's when your point could be valid.

My opinion is most want to wait till they see the Vols field a championship level team. They want to see if they can take the next step. This teams success this fall will mean the difference in a good class and a great class imo.

Has anyone looked up who we had committed at this time last year?

FWIW Chad Simmons of Scout said this guy would be rated as one of the top LBS in the country when they redo their ranking this summer.

Very very very key in this discussion

Also with all the jones classes here

Vic wasn't a 5star but he darn sure pumped the Pom Poms. Well before this point in the cycle.

We need that badly right now IMO

Would be interesting to compare. Not sure it's very very very key. :)

Vic was the vocal leader, but he wasn't the big domino that got others to start falling. That was TKJr and he committed in March. Vic was all alone for a while.

Yes but Hurd and TKJr were both committed by this time their junior year.

It was about this time of year when they committed.

Each class has had a "big" vocal instate early commit with the exception of last year and last year was our worst in state year

Jones was the guy in 2015

Vic in 2014

We need one very soon for 2017
