Tennessee commitment Shawn Shamburger, a three-star senior cornerback from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Ga., is planning to visit a couple of other schools leading up to National Signing Day.

The 5-foot-11, 188-pound Shamburger told GoVols247 on Tuesday that he's scheduled to take official visits to Iowa State this weekend and Ole Miss the weekend of Jan. 27 before finalizing his college choice. He said the Vols also will host him on an official visit the weekend of Jan. 20.

Even when Shamburger announced his commitment to Tennessee more than two months ago, he indicated that he was likely to visit at least a couple of other schools leading up to signing day.

“I'm going to check out some other places before signing day, just to make sure," Shamburger told GoVols247 in November.“But I’m pretty sure this is where I’m going.”

Lots of guys end up taking a visit or two and it turns out to be nothing, and some guys talk about taking visits to other schools and don't end up taking them. Right now, I don't think the odds of him flipping to another school are very high either way, but any visit is worth watching this time of year.

For what it's worth, we said at the time Shamburger committed that he was a guy Tennessee expected to have to fight to hold onto leading up to signing day. He's a better player than a lot of people seem to think.

I'm with Callahan. This kid is better than his ranking and coaches know. He's from a talent rich area. Worst case scenario: somebody will try to sign him to get to someone else.
