With Corker, the Vols continue to be a program to watch with him. But, something that's interesting is the fact that he could possibly want to play with teammate Shakur Brown. West Virginia is a mutual school of interest so that could be something to watch.

But, as of now, we still believe the Vols should be considered the team to beat.

So should we rely more on developing three star players or try to get the better 4 and 5* players? How many can we expect to be underrated?

Tell me which ones will be good and which won't and your contribution will be worthwhile. Otherwise people are just whining about something they know nothing about.

My only point is that there are other indicators of a player's eventual contribution than the stars given to him by the recruiting services. There are plenty of 3 stars who don't pan out and recruiting is a flawed science, at best, because there are also 4 and 5 star players that don't work out. I agree that the chances of higher ranked players, in general, being contributors, is better, but that is not to say that our staff cannot evaluate talent and does not find guys who can help us who are not 4 or 5 stars.

4 and 5 star players with a select few 3 stars. That should be the standard, and it was pretty close to it for Butch's first couple of recruiting classes. 2017 has been the year of the 3 star up to this point.

That is the wrong standard. The standard should be that we get recruits who can help us win. The rest is just something to talk about until that question can be answered. Peiple are using ratings as predictions, and they arent good predictors on an individual player basis. Complaining that we have too many 3*s is like complaining about the betting line in a game being too low or that the preseason polls have us ranked low . It is at best a fuzzy and unreliable prediction. Why call predictions the standard? Evaluate on actual performance when it happens. Don't let people who are paid to sell subscriptions decide who should be a Vol.

He's right that Bama/OSU have a better 2017 recruiting class than UT right now? Oh my gosh, what a genius! He should probably have his own segment on ESPN Recruiting Nation with incredible insight like that. His brand of 'annoying and obnoxious' is perfect for cable tv.

The bottom line is, you have to have a majority of 4* and 5*s to win in the SEC. It's statistically proven.

Why is that so hard to understand for many? They're so hung up on apologizing for every 3 star Butch lands, that they don't see the bigger picture.

BO91, Vols 30, and Catbone,

Yall should start your own thread where you can rail on end about how horrible we are and how we will never be good again. Bringing this discussion into nearly everything single recruit thread is annoying and guess what it hasn't changed the way Butch is recruiting. So if you really enjoy spinning your wheels and beating dead horses at the same time, maybe you could do it in a controlled environment where the rest of us that want to discuss the actual recruits might be able to do that. Shoot, I'll even start the thread for you if you want. It'll be called, "Eyeore's Gloomy Thread I".
