'17 GA LB Mo Burnam (former UT commit)

Atlanta MVP Camp, 6/20/15:
Another guy I didn’t know much about coming into the day, De’Morreal Burnam was the best linebacker in a very impressive group. He had a little trouble in coverage at times, but he is very talented. Listed at 6’2, 218, he looked like a safety, but did a great job at linebacker. The 2017 prospect has room to grow, and could develop into a productive outside linebacker at the next level. Burnam is a prospect who could really burst onto the recruiting scene soon.

Not too sure abt Mo. He's not agile, not quick or sudden. I have a distinct feeling that his committment came as surprise to our staff. According to 247, he is at or about the 1000th best player in America and he's the 98th ranked player in Georgia.
I honestly don't have a thing against him, but his talent profile fits a Tulane, Memphis or Tulsa more so than in Neyland Stadium. Don't expect this one to make it to NSD.

A surprise? Why would they offer someone they don't want? Man some of our fans are really dumb

Part about looking like safety or grow into Olb surprised me, because looking at that picture of him, he looks pretty big to me, like a DE that could grow into DT.

The morning started with the Volunteers not having a player committed in the 2017 class. The night ended with De’Morreal Burnam knowing Tennessee will be his next home.

The Scout three-star outside linebacker prospect gave coach Butch Jones the news in the fourth-year head man’s office Saturday night amidst the junior day event.

“They went crazy,” Burnam told InsideTennessee. “It was real exciting.
“It was just how the scenery was and how the coaching staff treated me. Last week, I went to FSU. That was pretty good, too, and the environment and stuff. But the way they treat me over here (at Tennessee) was way better. I love the coaching staff.

“I talked to coach (Tommy) Thigpen, the linebackers coach, linebackers assistant coach (Derek) Day, mostly everybody, and of course coach Jones, everybody.
“It’s a great feeling. I had butterflies when I was going up there but I knew I was making the right decision for myself.”

Along with time with the coaching staff, Burnam pointed to Neyland Stadium and the Peyton Manning Locker Room as what stuck out about the junior day.

The Salem (Ga.) High School junior chose the Big Orange over offers from the likes of Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina, South Florida and Wake Forest. He got the Tennessee offer on Feb. 26.

The three-star became familiar with the program on The Hill by way of former Tennessee safety and All-America Deon Grant, who intercepted 14 passes his final two years on Rocky Top before becoming a second-round NFL Draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2000.

Salem coach John Starr is close to Grant. Burnam has spoken to Grant previously and his next order of business after speaking with InsideTennessee was to tell Grant about his declaration.

“I look up to Deon Grant,” Burnam said. “Ever since then I’ve just been looking at the school and stuff. I’ve always been an SEC type of guy. So, (Tennessee) has always been a school that’s been on my list.”

The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder ranks by Scout as the No. 28 outside linebacker in the 2017 class, No. 13 in the South and No. 6 in the Peach State. Tennessee coaches see Burnam, who has ample experience dropping into space and covering skill players one-on-one, playing linebacker.

“I play outside linebacker,” Burnam said. “I play a little bit of everything in the secondary — corner, strong safety, free safety. I just want to improve on my footwork, speed and just reading the play. I think coach Thigpen is going to really help me with that.”

Burnam admitted he went into the visit thinking it was possible that he would commit to Tennessee while he was on campus.

“I had a little feeling that I was going to commit there,” said Burnam, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 915 overall prospect and No. 34 inside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class.

“Tennessee has always been a school that I’ve been interested (in), and when I got here they treated me like family.”

The 6-foot-2, 219-pound Burnam chose Tennessee over offers from Florida State, North Carolina, Louisville, Wake Forest, South Florida, Cincinnati and Charlotte.

“(I liked) just the environment of the whole place, the scenery and the beautiful facilities,” he said.

Burnam said the Vols’ coaches have told him that they envision using him as an outside linebacker who could play as “more of a nickelback” at times and “more like a stand-up (defensive) end” in other situations.

He attended a junior day at Florida State last weekend, and with National Signing Day for the 2017 class still almost 11 months away, he said he still plans to continue exploring his options a bit. But he said he’s sold on Tennessee for now.

“I’m still going to check out my other options to see if I feel different about everything,” Burnam said.

He didn't commit, he made a reservation. Who commits and says those words? Sounds like the famous words before a decommit.

That's OK. That gives Butch an out too. If someone they like better comes along they can recruit over him with impunity.

good grief Patty, OR or like has happened umpteen times with this staff they got an early commit from an MLB/DE type who will explode on the scene in fall. which is more likely the scenario.

I'm just glad to have a commit

I officially declare him lead peer recruiter for the 2017 class. At least until another one jumps on.

Now to see what his film looks like. Hate to say it, but have been slacking on watching highlights since NSD. Breaks over.
