'17 IN QB Hunter Johnson (Former UT Commit 8/23/15) (Clemson commit)

The "family" feel they has served butch so well has worn off with the "business" decisions that were so public

Take a kid that is having any doubts at all but wants to stay loyal, it's sooooo much easier to go away from a commitment when you know the coaches are doing the same when they have questions.

It's finally catching up

Yea, this is just a stupid post!

Too many moving parts to take into consideration to oversimplify it that much. The OL was a factor, a QB whose deep ball isn't the best part of his game was a factor, coaches not trusting their QB, WR injuries.... All of these have to be part of the equation. Not saying you're wrong, just that we don't have a large enough sample size with a full compliment of weapons to know yet.

True.

Cza must go

I've been generally in the same camp since 2 years ago. I want to see how he manages Preston and Malone this next year. If he can't get those two cats eating peanuts next year (Dobbs or not) then he can't do it anywhere and does not deserve to be at WRU.

Johnson's commitment never really made sense to me. Why would a "pro-style" quarterback want to play for a team with a spread run attack, with at least three more experienced and more mobile QBs ahead of him on the depth chart? And why were we really interested in Johnson? Hasn't the past two seasons proven conclusively that our offense works better with a mobile QB?

Moreover, as a general matter, it seems like evaluating elite pro-style QB prospects is much harder than it is for evaluating elite mobile QBs. At least in the college game, mobile QB prospects have a much higher floor because even if they can't hit the broad side of a barn with their arm at least they can thrive in a run-first offense (e.g., Tim Tebow, Terrell Pryor, etc.) or switch positions (Russell Sheppard, Braxton Miller, etc.). By contrast, 5-star pro-style QBs facing decent competition for the first time in their lives can have a real crisis of confidence and either lose their jobs (Garrett Gilbert, Kyle Allen) or never make it on the field (e.g., Mitch Mustain, Max Browne).

Am I wrong?

Don't tell Trevor Lawrence that then.

First let me start by saying that I couldn't stand Tim Tebow (the player) at Florida because well he played for Florida. But this misconception that he couldn't pass in college is flat out wrong. He has a higher career completion percentage than Peyton Manning did in college. In fact he beats Peyton in almost every passing stat in college and it's not really that close. He actually could hit the broad side of a barn in college at a much higher rate than our beloved PM. He was a very good passer in college whose game didn't translate to the pros.

2017 is still a long way off. Do you really think this team can carry the top pro style QB prospect (Hunter Johnson) and the top dual threat prospect (Jarrett Guarantano)? I can't see both of these guys on the same roster and having it work out. First of all, the system needs to be developed that fits one or the other. Secondly, one of these guys is going to be ticked to be sitting. A lot of things can happen between now and signing Day 2017. If JG comes in healthy next yr, I seriously doubt that HJ will commit in Jan 2017.

Do I get to post a big "I told you so" now?

This doesn't surprise me at all. Good luck to the kid but it was never going to work out for him here. We're too deep

You post that sucker, buddy. Start a FEW threads. I think you knocked the entire volunteer nation on its a$$ with the Eric Snowden-like revelation that 5 star qb's might not want to sit the bench.

Was it also your gutsy analysis that the game of football may be ready for the forward pass?

E-cred? What do you call your response at the time?

Common denominator of top programs? Loaded rosters. Check out Bama's QBs...5 stars and 4 stars waiting their turn. Hell, Cornwell had to win a camp competition to get an offer. Notre Dame signs a top QB (or two) in every class. If HJ flips to them, it won't be to duck competition.

Nostradamus you're not

Nostradamus you're not

I'm not letting you pick my Powerball numbers little blowhard. Since I cited Notre Dame (which was YOUR prophetic destination), a school that stockpiles QB talent, the point that he wasn't going there to "duck competition" would resonate...to those with a clue. :). If I predict he flips FROM Clemson in the next calendar year will you teach me football?

I must say that my skills don't extend to Powerball or exactly what team this guy transfers to. Sorry that disappoints you. I think he is transferring to duck competition. Do you have a better reason? Or is he afraid the orange is going to stain his other clothes if he mixes them with whites in the washer?
