'17 IN QB Hunter Johnson (Former UT Commit 8/23/15) (Clemson commit)

Did Butch even push for Hunter Johnson? Maybe he doesn't really want him. The same is also true for '18 QB Trevor Lawrence. Sure, Butch "recruited" Lawrence, but has never shown Trevor the love.

He was committed here. It seems someone convinced him our style of offense wouldn't suit him. He then pretended to still be committed and visited Tennessee to recruit Tee in person. Enemy #1.

He definitely wanted HJ.

Trevor Lawrence is another story. He was a heavy lean until Butch started pursuing Emory Jones and at that point he was lost. Not saying it was the wrong choice, EJ fits this offense better but that was when you stopped hearing all the love from TL.

If this kid never plays a snap of college ball I still say his decommit from the Vols was the first and largest domino that led to this class being subpar.

Hunter and Tee defecting dealt a huge blow to the class and to the potential of what it could have been.

Completely agree.

At the end of the day, I think he made the right choice going somewhere else. Based on everything we've seen, I think our offense is much more productive and even balanced with a mobile DT QB.

Higgins is another story. We needed him in this class, and it makes losing him that much worse seeing how our coaches are now chasing a playmaker at WR this late in the cycle.

Its kind of funny to see people trashing HJ ever since he chose Clemson over UT. Now he is overrated, not very good blah, blah, blah. But if he would have stuck with us, most would be bragging about how we got one of the top QBs in the country.

I actually said he wasn't that good while he was committed to us. I saw him struggle in a game on ESPNU and that is when I realized he was overrated.

I still think this kid is a camp/7 on 7 warrior who has trouble once things are going full speed in a a true game setting. He threw a lot of INTs in high school.

He may be a great college QB eventually, but he's gonna need time to adapt.

Unarguable

I realize you hate Butch but this is ridiculous even for you

Reading this is like a kick in the balls

Pretty much the sentiment I had when I made a post in this thread a few days ago. Seems as though I made a RF faux pas by stating that I'd take 3 elite unproven Clemson commits for one unproven rs QB who was an elite prospect in 2015. Basic idea is that HJ decommitment torched this class.

Completely disagree. Hunter Johnson is another Heath Shuler. Trevor Lawrence however is another Peyton Manning! Not sure what JG is except another Josh Dobbs.

:thud:

Tennesseeduke

If JG turns out to be another Josh Dobbs, then he will be a great player and citizen here and I will be very happy about it.

Hasn't gotten any less ridiculous. :)

I'd take 1 VFL over 3 who don't want to be here

So if Tee and Hunter both bust...did it matter in the long run? Who did we not get because of them decomitting, that we would have gotten otherwise?

Not sure who but I don't doubt the perception for other recruits they could have had on the class.
