Butch keeps doing things the way he has been the only thing that will get torn up next year will be his contract.....

This season was certainly a disappointment, but the Dooley comparisons are just dumb. Dooley never beat UF or UGA. Dooley played multiple games per season where the outcome was a forgone conclusion. Dooley never recruited at a high level.

With the exception of Bama this year, we've been competitive in every game which is a significant change from the Dooley years. Being competitive isn't the end goal, but you don't just get back to being a perennial powerhouse overnight. The Butch years have been a massive improvement over the Dooley years, and anyone who can't see that really should go root for another team.

I'm not saying Butch is Dooley. He's been much much better. My point was Butch is losing control of the narrative the way Dooley started losing control after Kentucky in 2011. I like Butch and want him to be successful. But it is hard when the narrative and momentum turn against you.

Difficult to see how any head coach survives at UT. This fan base is insane.

And this forum is one of the reasons. This environment is corrosive to any coach that does not beat Alabama or Florida. I live here in Alabama and I used to think their fans were the craziest. Not so.

Butch is a good coach but that is not good enough. Too bad, I am checking out of here for awhile. I pretty much stopped posting (never have posted much), but it is hard to read all this vitriol all the time. I'll check back in the spring and see who else has gone crazy.

BreakerBoy, you are an embarrassment to the fan base.

Freak, this could be a great site, and technically it is, but you allow way too much negative stuff with no way to reply, need the thumbs down button (don't like) as a way to brake some of these clowns.

I for one am glad we hold the team to high standards. This is big boy football with big boy money involved. Win or get out, we have no reason not to.

Oh great - the annual 'the fans cause the program to lose' post(s). There are good reasons those posts happen, people become emotionally attached to mediocre to worse coaches and act like they are their family members. Yeah, it's our fault Butch, Dools and Fulmer blew it at various points. Had nothing to do with their incompetence that the entire country laughs about.

They act like we should fully support a guy who loses to SCAR and Vandy in the same season. I mean the recruits are letting you know the impact of that right now.

While I may not 100% agree with Breakerboy on this, I absolutely do not completely disagree with him. What I will say is he has earned the right to his opinion on here. He's been on this site through thick and thin with the Vols. If you don't like it...leave. You'll not be missed.

If it hurts recruiting.... then it is only about .0000001% or how much losing to teams like Vandy and USCe hurt. Maybe less than when one of the faces of your program (Hurd) walks away from the team in the middle of the season ostensibly because Jones broke promises to him.

It takes time to build a winning program. Butch started with rubble. This year was gonna be the year until pre modonnas, injuries, and inexplicably poor defense tossed our season in the crapper. Butch was able to at least get us back to expecting high standards. No coach will ever succeed if we toss them to the curb everytime they hit a speedbump.
