Visit schedule is Tennessee Jan 13, A&M Jan 20, LSU Jan 27.

I also believe that is his order, too.

So in other words LSU swoops in and grabs a LA , no big surprise here.

I'm wondering if they have room on scholarships to grab Etienne if he wants to commit there myself. They've already had problems with numbers.

They would probably have to let another commit go which would be way more than us let go already.

Whose's the 4* RB we can swoop in and steal last minute from Karns?

I'm not familar with Knox Karns High School in detail if that's who you're talking about. I didn't know there was a 4* RB playing at Karns? You are pulling my leg aren't you buddy?

Nothing against them, but Karns never has been a powerhouse program. They might have had a 4 star cheerleader once upon a time, so I feel he is not only pulling your leg, but if you don't pull away immediately, you won't be winning any ass kicking contests.

I know he's telling one because I looked up their 2016 roster & stats. No way there is a 4* player on that roster. I don't know why he even responded with that anyhow.

Because LSU can seemingly waltz into any high school in Louisiana the night before signing day and have whomever they want just because they are LSU and the kid is from Louisiana, despite ignoring that kid for the previous 2 years.

Tennessee can't even pull a top 3 WR who lives 20 miles from campus, grew up a Tennessee fan, and is named after our national championship quarterback.

Just two completely different cultures.

Very sad and very true.

Travis Etienne's Top 6 per 247 in no particular order:

Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, UT, Bama, & Miami.
LSU posters say he's always wanted to play at LSU more than anywhere else. Apparently, LSU was holding off on offering until after Akers' decision. If that's true and he's a take for LSU, it sure seems like they'll get him. He's the real deal too, imo.

Lol. It's amazing how every in-state school can slow play their in-state recruits and still land them, except Tennessee. If we don't offer 2 years before they graduate, then there's no Wray we will land them.

Got to love the beavers.

They all can't. It depends on the program and how much the player wants to go there. Vols falling short of expectations this season likely hurt both in-state and out-of-state recruiting some.

I was told LSU had previously given him an offer but it was not committable until yesterday. They asked him to remain silent on it. LSU needed 2 backs at the minimum and possibly 3 as I am not sure of that many strong backs in the area for next year.

Yes, LSU was his dream offer so LSU it probably is for Etienne now when we were running 1st or 2nd from most recruiting services before the LSU offer.

I understand the reasoning for us, yet, LSU has gone 8-5, 9-3, and 7-4 the last 3 years, hired their interim coach who was 10-25 previously as a permanent head coach, and can still get who they want in-state.

As Chris stated previously, it's a culture and way of life that this state does not have.

Hmm. Each recruit is different but generally speaking distance has a lot to do with it, and the in-state school obviously has other advantages on top. LSU has a hard time getting Tennessee recruits although there has been a few. I believe thinking recruits are somehow completely pissed off because a school doesn't make them #1 priority is not how this works, generally. College sports and football recruiting in general is kind of bizarre, neither side really knows where everyone stands at least legally.

Sounds like LSU said if Akers didn't come than there was a spot for Etienne, not sure why he would be mad because they had someone higher on the board.

Not saying there is anything wrong with it. But, generally speaking, UT cannot get in-state players like LSU can. That probably also goes for Texas, Ole Miss, Alabama, and maybe some others. There are always exceptions.

Other than LSU having some new staff members, I don't know why anyone would be excited about the hire. Yet, UT has the same record the last 2 years, and the perception seems to be that we are a sinking ship.

Valid points, however:

A lot of people question LSU's hiring of Orgeron, mainly because failed in his 1st HC gig at Ole Miss. Since then, he's done a good job as an interim HC twice. His accent may make him seem dumb, but he's smarter and more savvy than many give him credit for. Also, consider that Orgeron at LSU is a somewhat similar scenario to Dabo at Clemson.

Dabo was a position coach hired as an interim and then permanent HC. Orgeron's strengths are much like Dabo's -- relationships, recruiting, motivation. Like Dabo, Orgeron has excellent coordinators (DC Aranda & OC/QB Canada) and staff, and will give the coordinators freedom to do their jobs. It's a formula that can be very successful, as Clemson is demonstrating.

There really wasn't that much at LSU that needed to be fixed, main need was to hire a very good OC/QB coach and let him do his job without meddling. Offensive philosophy and QB recruiting & development were the key issues under Miles. LSU gets top talent and has landed two very good QB recruits in this class. Those expecting Orgeron to flop at LSU may be in for a big surprise.

J J McClesky went to Karns, I think. But yes, they aren't cranking out the D1 prospects.

Like I mentioned, each recruit has his own set of reasons, but generally, going across State lines is more miss than hit strategy. I don't look at UT as a sinking ship, although the end of the season could have gone better.

LSU basically only lost a few recruits when Les was canned, which is kind of unusual but the recruits apparently are focusing on marrying the school/program versus a particular coach in this instance. (although I actually really like who they have in place for next year Coach O plus Aranda/Canada = very good imo)
