'17 MS TE Chase Rogers (Former UT commit)

For those with concerns about his height (6-3), Vernon Davis, Dwayne Allen, Delanie Walker, Eric Ebron, and Richard Rodgers are all current NFL TEs who have had success playing the position at a similar size. Walker is only 6-0 FWIW. It isn't ideal size for the TE position, but it is manageable if he's athletic enough to just hold his own as a blocker and be a real threat as a receiver.

Good hands, high points the ball very well, looks like he could develope into a fine blocker. To be honest his film reminds me a lot of Daniel Wolf's a coue years ago. Since we probably can take about 26-28 in this class this is a good pick up.

i mean considering his offer list we were definitely the best of his options. Seemed like a no brainer especially if he had a desire to end it early. Call me crazy but that looks like terrible competition he's up against. Anyone knows what classification he plays in?

4a iirc.

this commit this early, is a head scratcher. i figured were in on a lot higher rated guys. anyway congrats kid.

that may be, but doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate for the kid or ourselves. This is the recruiting forum, this is a recruiting win, however small, if its not for you there is always the FF. Butch has proven that he will cut players later if needed, so if this kid ends up not being a good fit for Butch no harm in the end. its not like we are turning down top 100 players at the moment for this kid. I don't get why panties are in a wad.

most of that is not directed at you jack.

With all you say here wouldn't it be better to just wait to celebrate as you say "for the kid" until the Ink is dry after he really makes the cut?

Early, low rated commits are a catch 22 around here. 1 of 4 things always happen.

1) The ranking services reevaluate, raise the ranking, and Butch is proclaimed a genius for finding the kid early.
2) The ranking services don't raise the ranking, we sign the kid anyway, and the kid is under a high level of scrutiny his entire tenure at UT.
3) The dreaded gitshirt comes out around December and Butch is proclaimed Satan.
4) The kid is from Louisiana, gets the LSU offer he wanted all along after Rivals bumps him and dips.

The 2016 class was disappointing. Compared to what we needed to where we want to go, it was a flop. Now with two lowly rated three star recruits pledged we are broadcasting to better talent instate and across the nation that Tennessee will settle for anybody that will commit to come to Knoxville. Butch is erring badly by allowing these long shot prospects to publicly sign on.
We will only win championships with highly rated prospects that peer recruit and love the color Orange.......read Mo's comments after "committing" to us.
Now.....before my fellow Vol fans begin their ad hominem attacks.....A.K.A. shoot the messenger....attacks on me; go and look at the recruits now pledged to AL, GA, MS, and Clemson...BTW, Clemson already has two 4*s out of TN committed and possibly more to come, and then look at our two pledges. Are we tooling up to compete with them?....it doesn't look like it. Our recruits, while they may be fine young men and able athletes; just aren't in the league we have to have. We want recruits with star quality and success follows success.....the top talent we need will not be impressed to sign on with what we have committed to us up to now. Come on Butch, we're solidly behind you....let's do better than this.

I posted earlier in the thread. St Stanislaus is 4A. With that being said there isn't too much difference with a lot of 4A to 6A teams. They regularly play each other. For example, St. Stanislaus beat D'Iberville which is 6A. St. Stanislaus went to state and lost to Noxubee County. Competition is good down here.

Just watched some of his film. This guy can play. Very athletic and has great hands. I imagine he will get a bump in the rankings

This time or any time, Larry Scott and Butch Jones see potential with this kid or they would not have offered him. His film for his junior year shows a kid that can run routes, catch passes and make plays. He will obviously have to add weight to take on defenders at the LOS, but that is to be expected from most high school TE's.

of course, we are speaking in opinion mode, but I suspect you would be hard pressed to find too many people around the country, especially recruiting gurus that would classify our 2016 class as disappointing or "a flop"!

As for the two kids that have committed to us at this time, there is almost a full year before they will sign a LOI. Lasy year, people were doing the same type of complaining when Deandre Christmas Giles committed to us. Same was true with Marquill Osborne. All people see, these days is the number of stars assigned to them by a "recruiting site" that may or may not have any clue as to whether or not the kid can play at the next level.
