'17 TN ATH Amari Rodgers (Clemson commit)

I agree with this. Butch was selling playing time and did a hell of a job. Now he has to sell W's and L's, and if he can put the Vols in contention this year I don't think recruiting will be an issue for the foreseeable future.

It's kind of a similar thing you're seeing with Clemson right now, which could still finish with a top 5 class despite only signing around 20 people this year (17 are currently committed). 2017 is setting up with the potential to match if not exceed this years class. Dabo could always sell, but now that he has the playoff run as a feather in his cap, it's looking like it might go to a whole new level (side note, don't be shocked to see Gary commit to Clemson on Wed).

Anyways, came to pass along an update on Rodgers. Sounds like a Clemson commitment could come sometime in the next few weeks, but the question seems to be more when and not if at this point. I wouldn't be surprised for it to happen on NSD, as it would continue a trend we've seen play out for Clemson that last few years.

Obviously if he does move forward and commit, I certainly don't expect this to be over by any means.

What's Clemson's thinking on Higgins?

I'm as Vol homer as they come but you are just wrong on both accounts.

Used to go there for ODP soccer camp and there was nothing to do there. Must have changed in the past 20 years. What is close and what is there to do?

Dabo will be going to Bama when Satan walks away!

Stopped reading at "soccer camp"

He was on the visit with Amari this weekend, so you'd have to assume it went well considering Amari essentially decided for Clemson this past weekend.

Tee obviously has much deeper ties to UT, so this will always be an uphill battle. He's a priority though, and there's been some rumblings that another WR commit could drop anytime. Should there be something to that, odds point to JJ Robinson, the #1 overall WR.

I mention that because right now Clemson is only taking 3 WR's, assuming Cain doesn't continue being a dumbass and get kicked off the team or there's some other unforeseen attrition. If I was a betting man (I am), I'd say Clemson ends up with Robinson, Rodgers, and Ortre Smith and is more than ecstatic. Tee remains with the Vols.

Anyone else feel like the whole Tee mess is hurting us here? I just don't feel like he is probably too helpful for our cause after the backlash he caught for turning down WR coach yrs ago

I think this is more about Clemson being the flavor of the day. I hope it doesn't last too long. They are awfully close to Knoxville.

Stick around, Palmer.

You're good peoples.

LWSVol alluded to a rift between Tee and Butch over the interview. I think if true it could have a huge impact. JMO

Valentine's Day? Is his GF in the same grade? Maybe along with his commitment he's getting them BOTH a scholarship? Nice move Amari, nice.

I know, this notion that there is "nothing" to do in any major university town cracks me up.

When I went to UT I spent all my time either at my fraternity parties at the house, on the strip, in the fort or at a date party/mixer my first 3 years at school.

My last year or so I started getting to downtown and the old city but UT being in "a City" isn't that big of a deal to most recruits I would guess.

That sounds like me too. I never cared about the city. The college life in the bubble was great.

Guessing he does the "sexy" pick and commits to Clemson at this point. I'm sure we will stay after him though.

Not sure why anyone would want to go to Clemson? Middle of no where. Plus after Watson leaves next year they will drop down a tier.

Why would any WR want to come to UT right now? That is, unless they just like blocking 90% of the time.

Agreed, been saying that in the Higgins thread too. We have some proving to do this year if we want to land top WR talent.
