'17 TN ATH Jacoby Stevens (LSU commit)

Reading back through this thread with de1s comments and everybody else who've seen him play, Ive concluded I want this kid on our football team. Like real bad.

He seems like he has that "pissed off for greatness" trait.
He's got a lot of that dog in him.

He seems to be retweeting a lot pro UT things of late. Hopefully, LSU's poor handling of the head coach last year benefits us in the end.

Underclassman Eval

STRENGTHS: Has near ideal size for the position and excellent hands. Possesses terrific ball skills and is not afraid to go into traffic and make the difficult grab. Great leaper who should be a weapon in the redzone. Runs crisp routes and shows the ability to separate in both man and zone coverage. Is effective on defense as potential nickel linebacker/SS. Physical player.

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Lacks a second gear, is quick but build speed. Needs to expand his route tree. Needs to settle in at one position.

BOTTOM LINE: Stevens is the prototypical, physical wide receiver/safety. He is a gifted and rangy athlete, but also raw. Physical presence and skills on both side of the ball are impressive. Shows flashes of being a difference maker.

So they basically almost copied and pasted Gibbs and Stevens evaluations. And seem to be clueless that both of them will most certainly play defense. Typical ESPN.

Agree. I have found that ESPN's recruiting service is fairly lazy and not even close to the standards of the others.

If a Con on him is "has to develop his route tree", I'll take it.....because he will never run a route at the next level. I do worry that he and Gibbs are so similar. I think we can still land both, but at the same time I worry that we miss both. Trusting CBJ to not let that happen.

Put Gibbs on one side of the ball and Stevens on the other. Put Gibbs at one safety and Stevens at the other. Hell, just get them here and flip a dang coin! I'm ready to win the frickin SEC and we're gonna need both to beat Bama, Flarduh and Jawjuh

If the Governor of Tennessee ever threatened to cut football... There aren't enough sofas and mattresses to fuel the fires of rage that would begin within minutes

Cars would be overturned, puppies kicked and buckets of light bulbs strewn across the land

I don't think the LA Governor is saying he's going to "cut" football due to a budget shortcoming, unless I'm reading it completely wrong.

Is he not saying that if the scholarships are not paid due to budget restraints, student atheletes will not be able to attend class, rendering them ineligible?

That would in effect "shut down" football :dunno:

Good thing that our current Governor is a member of one of the first families of UT football :)

I don't think it's even scholarships at this point. Unless taxes are raised or there's budget cuts elsewhere I'm pretty sure every public university will shut down on April 30th. And then all the athletes would have grades of incomplete for the spring semester, making them ineligible.

Where are we with this kid? Stevens and Higgins are ridiculous.

We have a shot which is a million times better than this time last year. You can go back in this thread and read my posts. I said absolutely zero chance of landing him. Just goes to show you how quickly things change in recruiting (and how little I know).

Shoop was huge for Stevens and Gray but don't sell Butch short. He's been working these kids. Got them thinking about playing together in college.

I think Bonds and Fant are locks.

Long way to go. Need a big year to sell these big time recruits that are on the fence.
