'17 TN ATH Jacoby Stevens (LSU commit)

My thought is this: Stevens is more versatile. Can play deep safety, jump in the box, blitz, cover the slot, and has the toughness to battle and cover the TE.

He's certainly more versatile. But Higgins is a better prospect for his position than Jalen Ramsey was. Or Jalen Hurd.

In two years Higgins will be 6'5" 200 running a 4.3 with 40 inch vertical. He's close to that now, once he gets in college speed and explosion program he will reach that. He is a rare, rare talent.
On top of all that... he is a natural receiver.

I doubt he ever becomes a 4.3 guy and he doesn't need it. Receivers with his size and ball skills need to only run 4.5 to be special. Look no further than AJ Green. I think that is the type of player we're looking at.

So he's a stronger Randy Moss?

Jacoby Stevens is now ranked the #18 overall player & the #1 ATH in the nation according to 247Sports. Stevens jumped 4 spots in 247Sports' most recent rankings update. As the #18 overall player, Stevens is almost guaranteed to jump to a 5* prospect by 247Sports in the next update. Stevens is already a 5* recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Jacoby Stevens, ATH, Murfeesboro (Tenn.) Oakland – He's got the athleticism to be an elite wide receiver on the next level but the build and the mentality to dominate college football at safety.

He can get to 4.3. He's 4.4 now.

Stronger? Moss ran the football quite a bit in high school and broke tackles easily. No he's not stronger than Moss was. That's what made Moss so explosive was his strength.

However Higgins can be that type of player. Seriously...

He is more talented than AJ Green.
Even in our WR unfriendly offense he can put up big numbers...

Our offense will change quite a bit in 2 years.

Stevens is a five star no doubt. More athletic Ramsey. IMO Which is something in itself. He's the real deal. I think Higgins can absolute dominate every game he lines up at WR.

It's the first of three Junior days this Spring for Tennessee. First up a weekend with the in-state prospects including Murfreesboro athlete Jacoby Stevens who is looking forward to the chance to be around the orange with his fellow instate prospects.

"It's really exciting to think about all of us coming in together this weekend," Stevens said. "Football wise I watch their film a lot. I'm looking forward to getting know them outside of football. It won't hurt to meet new people and that's why this weekend will be fun for all of us."

So what is he looking for? The one-time LSU commitment has been feeling Tennessee more in recent weeks as the Vols continue to surge in his recruitment and he is hoping to see and hear things that will keep things trending.

"I just want to see what the players there have to say about the program," Stevens said. "I want to see how the coaches interact with the current players. I want to talk to Vincent Perry, Kyle Phillips and Josh Malone and see what's it's like to be an instate player at Tennessee."

Throw in the addition of new Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and Stevens sees the chance to really make an impact in Knoxville if Tennessee is the eventual school he chooses. The two have known each other since Shoop ran the defense at Vanderbilt.

"When coach Shoop got hired it was great," Stevens said. "He's going to do great things at UT. He is a big recruiting tool with what he's done and who he has produced. I love that UT has got him on board and I love coach Shoop. He's smart and he's an easy guy to talk to. I like that his defenses are always great."

Stevens and Oakland will scrimmage Knoxville Catholic this Spring. In what will be a special event, it will take place at the Tennessee indoor on May 13th.

He likes to go against the best to measure where his game currently stands and see where he needs to improve.

"I'm looking forward to that a lot," Stevens said. "Going against Knoxville Catholic and I'm going to get to see my old defensive coordinator, Kris White. I wish it was going to be at Neyland, but I'll settle for the indoor. It's going to be a great experience. I can see how it would feel to be a Tennessee Volunteer and practice in there."
