CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – On Sunday, Nashville based National Playmakers Academy hosted one of its spring camps at Clarksville High School and the camp featured some of the top players from middle Tennessee and Kentucky.
Alpha Dog
Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland athlete Jacoby Stevens has been sidelined some of the spring with turf toe but he worked out on Sunday at full speed and was unstoppable. The big 2017 four-star played primarily wide receiver, showing crisp route-running, good hands and the ability to climb the latter and extend his catch radius. When he lined up at defensive back, he was equally as impressive, showing tremendous physicality in press coverage. We like him best at safety but the 6-2, 200-pounder is elite at receiver as well.
Stevens is elite and he showed that on Sunday. He was outstanding as a route-runner and pass-catcher and was a big, physical mismatch. When he took reps on defense, Stevens was equally as dominant.
Through much of the spring, Stevens has been dealing with a turf toe injury so this was our first look at him since the season and he looked full speed. He isn't just a camp creation either. As a sophomore, Stevens had 50 tackles, a sack, a pair of fumble recoveries, three interceptions and a blocked field goal to go with nearly 300 yards receiving on 24 yards per catch in a run heavy offense.
I heard the new Oakland coach is putting in the Wing T and that they lost their starting QB, outside of camps might be hard for him to improve his stock.
Creasy is one of the best coaches in the state. I wish Gallatin had hired him instead of Williams. With Shadowens gone at Blackman, and with what happened to Riverdale's coach, Oakland may never lose another game.
