'17 TN ATH Maleik Gray (UT signee)

Need Gray to step up his recruiting game. Do work.

Any of our recruits doing this would be nice. Rodgers and HJ and Now Tee are all over everybody. I haven't seen or heard anything about any of our guys recruiting others except for Mays in the 2018 class. I've already seen those guys turn their attention to Smith

Need another recruit that is highly touted and has a lot of "star power" to team up with Gray and recruit for us. Cam Akers or Ty Chandler or both, Trey Smith, Gibbs, someone

Chandler needs to get on board and start recruiting with Gray, Fant, and Bumphus. That would show some solidarity amongst in-state guys and also include two highly rated kids.

What makes anybody so sure Chandlers even coming to UT? I am so freaking bummed out.

I choose to see it like this...the alleged insiders + Hubbs and company feel good about him, plus I haven't heard any significant chatter about any one team or another besides Tennessee. The Chandler recruitment hasn't been like Higgins where we knew Clemson was a significant threat or even Trey Smith with Bama.

I know it's difficult for you to do, but if you allow yourself to look at things objectively, Tee had little self-interest based reasons to pick UT. Little history of WR production, history of big time WRs not playing and/or being used to their potential, little history of putting WRs into the NFL, no guarantee of early playing time, etc.

If you do the same for Chandler, you get almost completely opposite results. He'll have a great shot at early PT, our rushing attack has thrived since Butch came to town (despite spotty OL play at times), two five star RBs who will be jumping to the NFL draft early, etc.

I'll admit I'm starting to get worried about recruiting as well, but RB is one of the spots we should be able to bring a good prospect like Chandler. The 2017 class might end up being a disappointment, but I still feel confident that we'll address RB with at least one boom worthy commitment.

Very well stated.

That is well stated. But I have one objection. To judge Butch Jones's WRs production, and NFL placement, you have to account for one huge success. It shouldn't be so easy to dismiss that. And by the way...Malone's troubles have everything to do with his lack of..muchness. And little to do with coaching. Heart is like speed...you either have it..or you don't. Very rarely does a player suddenly blossom in that regard. Imagine JJennings numbers if he had Malones talent. That would be a great WR.

In my defense my objectivity has been obliterated this off season. I think I can safely say that very few would accuse me of being so negative before now. But objectively I can state this..Tee should watch JGs passing in games under pressure, and then watch his lil sniveling buddy HJs passing in games, under pressure. Objectively I can state this, anybody with eyes can see JG is the better QB. Hunter Johnson is a camp warrior bust waiting to happen. I have held this position since before he pulled his little beyotch move to Clemson. He is a fraud

Butch and Co beat the Antonio Brown drum all the time, but that's ancient history to recruits. He entered the NFL 6 years ago. The coaches have no successful WR they can point to that they've produced at UT. That's what matters.

As for Malone, I don't disagree that he needs to have more fire in his game. But that's not exactly something coaches can or should sell to recruits. All they see is a 4/5 star WR who the coaches haven't gotten the ball to enough. If the coaches point out that his own shortcomings, it just looks like they're throwing him under the bus. That's not a good look either.

How many passes did you see thrown to Malone that were catchable with real effort...but with no effort at all from him? Anybody can see that. Maybe he can be like the Tin Man and find a heart.

You're overstating it. Malone has had lapses (most notably, the dime dropped to him against USCe), but not as bad as you're remembering it. He has to get better catching contested balls, but it's not like he had passes bouncing off his facemask and shoulderpads all season. Even if that was the case, how is that relevant at all to WR recruiting? The coaches still wouldn't be able to throw him under the bus.

You need to stop letting your emotional tidal wave (based on a teenage boys life decision) cloud your memory and judgment.

Actually, I've gone back and watched most of the games from last season in the last week and I was shocked by the amount of times he was targeted and didn't put his hands up or make any sort of fight for the ball. I didn't think it was as bad as it was until I went back and watched them again.

Malone's issues are much more on Malone than the coaches. He would not be putting up big numbers at any other school. He has not shown to have any "dog" in him, to this point. Likes things to be easy and they are not at this level. Using Malone against this staff (which I am sure is being done) is unfortunate for them.

Don't jinx it. Maybe we'll be able to hang on to him now. Hopefully, we learned something from KD decommitting....

Butch gonna have to reevaluate. I've said it before. He adopts Dabos no visit after committing policy and BUTCH shows he'll honor those commitments and imo he can turn this thing around. Maybe not this class, but starting next year. If you like preaching family, back it up. It can work.
