17 TN DB Theo Jackson (UT signee)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Theo Jackson did not have to attend Tennessee's "STATEment Day" satellite camp Sunday at Tennessee State University.
Jackson did so anyway "just the love for the game cause there's always room to work."
That willingness to compete combined with his physical tools is the reason why coaches in Knoxville want him to suit up for the Orange & White.
"They're at the top of my list for right now, definitely No. 1," said Jackson, who added that coach Butch Jones' staff has been on him since his sophomore season.
The Overton (Tenn.) High School athlete figures to play defensive back if he decides to play for Tennessee. It's the same Music City school that produced current Volunteers cornerback Justin Martin.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder plans to make a declaration for his college choice before Overton starts its 2016 season.

5 commits this time last year...you were saying?

You mean JG, Osborne, Johnson, George and Brooks who were all 4* highly ranked guys at the time? People are looking at the offer lists of guys right now and thinking we've reached some. Hard to argue, at this time. Senior year; things could change drastically. The 9 commits we have now, are nowhere near the quality of the 5 we had at the same time last year, at least not on paper. Which paper is what most of the unpaid "experts" on VN utilize.

Actually johnson and george were both unranked at this time last year. Brooks went from a 4 to a 3 around this time. Soooo 2 4 stars.

Not really happy about landing another 3 star player at this point. Would like us to get in on the higher rated guys. We are loaded down with 3 stars right now. Offer list not that impressive. LSU is the only team that stands out when you look at his list.

Hasn't been to a rivals camp...

I'm a big fan of this kid at the safety spot... Rangy athletic S, UT had a similar one in the late 90's...

He tore his ACL for the second time in May, 2015. Missed both his junior and senior years.

Ok. But he hadn't dropped in his ranking yet. The whole point being, the class looked better on paper at this time last year than it does this year. Other than quantity it can't really be debated.

Seeing as none of them have played a down of college ball and the 17 recruits haven't even played their senior year yet it is easily debatable, just not till January.

But you are going by paper, which is what matters.

I understand. Not saying you are, but people freak out about anything. It is pretty clear how Butch recruits. He will land highly ranked prospects, and he will bump lower ones if he has to. Also, the staff has shown that they are really good at evaluating talent, and that can't be debated either.

So 3 four stars last year at this time compared to 2 this year at the same time.

We finished 7th in the SEC recruiting wise last year (according 247 I think). We will be fine, but would much rather finish higher this year in SEC recruiting. Comparing to last year at this time vs the two years prior...😬

Fighting off the Sun Belt and FCS schools for 80% of the class is a major success

So dramatic. Every commit that we have so far has at least 5 offers from power five schools. Most have more, and most also have offers from other SEC schools or successful programs.

That was because of the lower numbers we took last year. In terms of average stars per player it was the highest rated class for the vols since the heyday of the Fulmer years.
