'17 TN DL Rutger Reitmaier (Oregon commit)

Tempted by who?

Duke is biggest competition, RR wants to commit to Tennessee but his coaches want him to wait...Cut has invited the staff to Durham this month to visit spring practice. Kid wants to be a Vol but is listening to his coaches wishes to wait...lawsuit was also mentioned by coach I spoke to last Thursday about RR. All in all looks good for vols but duke is lurking.

Just clarifying, you mean the lawsuit was mentioned by the high school coach, not Cut, right? I would find it hard to believe he would negative recruit with the lawsuit.

I read it as the HS coach mentioning it, not Cut. Didn't get that impression at all.

That is one strange choice for a user name.

I went to HS at Lipscomb, and played on the football team years ago. I live in TX now, but if the coach is who I think it is, (he was the interim coach after coach McCadams passed, and is now the head coach) he's from Alabama, and is an Alabama fan.

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist. Don't know if that is in play here or not, just passing along.

I love Cut but he has a job to do. If he thinks mentioning it would help get the kid, he would not hesitate to do it. He is the coach at Duke now. But, because he coached here, it could backfire. I think that is more reason why he would not instead of any loyalty.

you are correct on all those accounts.

OTOH, Tillman and all his coaches went to Knoxville a few weeks ago for a personal coaching clinic. Plus, he's not the kind of guy that would do that to a player. He wants whats best for them and if its UT, fine. If its Bama, fine. etc.....

Not the coach you are thinking of, he's on staff but not HC. Cut didn't mention, the HS asst coach did. Handle is a derivative of manny...just having some fun with it, oh and a huge fan of free internet porn:)

Thanks for the updates!

How does one go about "helping" a recruit in his recruiting?

You are correct in that the Lipscomb head coach is a big bamer fan. One of the asst is a Penn State guy and another is an ole Miss guy. I cant understand why, when a kid gets the offer he's worked all his life for, someone would talk him into waiting.......

The Top247 junior defensive tackle from Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tenn., said Penn State and South Carolina recently have joined his group of favorites, which already included Tennessee, Duke and Vanderbilt, but the Vols still have “a little bit of an edge” over the others. Reitmaier added an offer from South Carolina in late February, and he picked up offers from Missouri, West Virginia and Georgia Tech last month. Penn State gave him his latest offer Saturday during his visit with the Nittany Lions. Tennessee now has a bit more competition for one of its top in-state targets, but he said the Vols have continued to impress him since he attended their junior day in February.

“I think all the schools are on top, but I think Tennessee still has a little bit of an edge,” said Reitmaier, who’s ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 154 overall prospect and No. 7 defensive tackle in the 2017 class. “I would just say definitely my relationships I have with the coaches (stand out), and the fact that it’s in-state.”

Reitmaier said he has stayed in frequent contact with Tennessee coach Butch Jones’ staff. He said Jones, defensive line coach Steve Stripling and first-year defensive coordinator Bob Shoop all talk with him on a weekly basis.

“I talked with both Coach Stripling and Coach Shoop (on Monday), actually,” Reitmaier said. “We talk pretty much every day over (Twitter direct message) and call at least once a week. They just talk to me about how much they want me and need me up there, and they want to make sure I can get back up and keep in contact with them. I also try to talk to Coach Jones on the phone once a week. He also likes me to give him a call once a week. They all want me to just call and talk to them every week.”

The Vols have continued to stress to Reitmaier, he said, that they’re short on depth at defensive tackle.

“They keep telling me that they’re kind of thin in that area right now, and this has to be a big class for them,” he said. “They’d like to start it off with me. It’s a big defensive-tackle class for them.”

- 247 (Callahan)

Reitmaier also said that he thinks his decision will be made at some point this summer.
