'17 TN DL Rutger Reitmaier (Oregon commit)

Met this kid at the FBU camp last year. His explosiveness and quickness for his size is what stands out. Likes to bull his way through, once he gets his technique down he'll be a good ball player. I'd say he'd be able to contribute by his Jr year

The comment I quoted and part of my comment were removed for some reason....I was replying to someone who suggested that some of us think he can't be a DT because he's white and that he us all the measurables for a DT.

I was the someone and it appears Mr. Freak didn't like my opinion? It's still my opinion that his skin color is the only reason folks are questioning him at DT. A much better DT prospect than Picou was last cycle. IMO, JMO, IMHO, TIFWIW.

And most of the folks questioning whether he's a DT are white skinned themselves.

I'm not saying he couldn't play DT. I'm saying when I watch his highlights, I see someone who looks like they have the most upside at OG for us. Especially with the way Debord has us pulling so many linemen in the run game more than Bajakian did.

I felt the same way about Robertson when he was coming out. Race isn't the issue.

Certainly you're entitled to an opinion, walken though I respectfully disagree

It's not uncommon, through the years several white players have come in as DT changed positions and excelled. Layman, Mays and Teague of the top of my head. It's a combination of measurements and skill set, nothing to do with race

So have several black DT switched over to the OL. Listing 3 who were white doesn't really prove a point that I can follow? Right now we have Roberson and Mosely who came in as DT's and are now on the OL. Old school recruiting was to sign all DT's for linemen then move some of them over to the OL.

Who knows, if RR does come to UT he may well end up on the OL? My point is that his current measureless and highlight clips compare very favorably to other DT's we've recruited in the past yet for some reason many are jumping to the conclusion that he would be an OL? Why is that? every DT we recruit could probably be converted to OL. Wouldn't KMac be an awesome OG? I'm sure he would, but I'd rather have him at DT myself. I'd rather RR prove he can't be a DL before automatically shipping him over to OL.

You're the one crying race foul

O'Brien was never in consideration for a move, going back neither were Burton or Duff who like the previously mentioned (Layman, Mays, Riley, and Teague) went on to play at the next level

Robertson projected as G, Mosely's move was more out of necessity then measurements

We can agree to disagree however, I'm sure if Tennessee signs RR he'll have that opportunity

Referring to physical dimensions only, RR looks a lot like Shy did going into the Summer of his Senior yr. In terms of athletic technique however, Shy was a good bit ahead of where RR is now. Shy played (talking Senior yr of HS) with a killer instinct let's hope RR will amp up this Fall. Prototypically though, RR fits in as a OG.
But either way, we need him.

and many of crack scouting staff here had Hurd as a TE or H back, entirely too tall to be a RB...yet the guy, with a healthy 2016, will probably break the school rushing record despite playing much of his career behind a very inexperienced OL......

Comprehending sarcasm is a sign of intelligence.

I agree Walken had him for camp and I think you're dead on.

From the comments I read, I got the impression Paul came away more impressed in Charlotte with Rutger than Crosby. Of course, with the desperate need at DT I'm hoping we land both...

We need 2-3 DTs this cycle with Alexis Johnson being in the air right now. Crosby and Rutger would be a nice 1-2 combo to get us headed in that direction.

Agreed. That would be a good combo. Throw in Gaddy or Hutch, and you have a good haul. A lot of people seem to think that we need a Junior college DT too, but with KMac, Tuttle, Picou, and Vickers all coming back in 2017, I don't think it's necessary.

I think he can play DT but I am white. So, what does that make me? Seriously, when are both black and white going to stop looking at black and white and just look at people.

On the other hand, you can have a football opinion regardless if accurate or not about a position and your opinion and it doesn't mean you are a racist or making a racist analysis, if in your opinion, you feel a guy should play a different position. De1 gets to see these guys and has a more educated opinion than most on a guys talent and perhaps his better position. But, even a more person with less football knowledge who has a difference of position does not mean it's because of color. The only one bringing up color is walken. That is a judgement of others that it seems with your comments, is very racially motivated. Black, White, Green, or yellow polka dots, I don't care what if you can play football and represent the University well, then come on and play.

My son was shocked recently, when two kids who were adopted by white couples and one child is black and the other is from the Phillipines, and he overheard they were adopted. He thought they were his biological parents. I am proud of that. It is the place Dr. King wanted us to get too. Time for folks of every background who are adults to figure it out and stop the education of prejudice in them.

I think he would be a nasty DT the way he gets of blocks and has that speed to pursue laterally. But I couldn't stop thinking about how much he moves like Coleman Thomas when CT IS PULLS!. How effective CT is, getting blocks in space and downfield, and how Rutger seems to be even more athletic is an awesome possibility...at CENTER. Either way, I hope we land this kid. He will be a good one.

That was basically my thinking. The way he blocks on offense is what makes me think that may be where his highest upside is moreso than anything I've seen of him defensively from his highlights.

But I do realize that highlights don't tell the full story usually.

"Reitmaier visited Duke over the weekend before the Rivals Camp, but the Vols still "hold the edge" he told me. Really likes Shoop and what's going on at Tennessee. But, Duke and Penn State are certainly still in the mix. I think he likes Duke the second most right now.

Penn State? How can Penn State be in anybody's "mix"? Snakehead is still there and he's dead man walking. Both he and his staff are about to be 86'd after this year. Surely he's not seriously considering them.

I think you need to replace "Snake" to fit the right description.. Keep the head

I have zero inside knowledge, but if I was to make an educated guess I'd say that Shoop was probably recruiting him at PSU. I would expect them to be a hat on the table at this point, nothing more, Fort's comment notwithstanding.
