'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

But they care about the state of the program. They know when the head coach is on the hot seat

This is true but sometimes the kid just loves the school regardless of what is going on there. There is zero reason for Akers to even look at Ole Miss. Freeze is on the hot seat, they don't know how to use a RB, and sanctions are looming. Yet, Ole Miss is very much in his top 3, probably top 2. It's his home school.

Same with Smith, he's coming to TN imho.

I agree. Trey Smith wants to be a Vol. Has little to do with a dead man walking coach.

Uh, Ole Miss is barely in Akers top 3 my friend. They are 3rd right now. It's LSU, UT, & Ole Miss as his 1st 3 teams. FSU would probably follow at 4th & Michigan at 5th.

This preference order seemingly changes weekly.

Not weekly but bi-weekly though! :p Seriously, Akers has canceled visits to 2 of the 5 schools that I mentioned.

You could say there really are only 3 schools seriously involved but one school he canceled a visit to he had already been there before in FSU. So, maybe it's safer to say 4 teams are seriously involved.

Year one.... We are year four.

Cant compare the two. A High school football coach could walk into Georgia and pull top classes. The state is absolutely loaded with talent every year and most of the top talent stays in state. Just like Louisiana. So comparing Butch and Smart is not really fair.

Are you saying that Georgia in-state talent stays in Georgia but it's not fair to Butch that in-state talent in Tennessee goes out of the state? I must be confused. CBJ can't allow our strongest in-state talent leave & go play elsewhere. It's happening all too much with him.

Butch has done a pretty good job of keeping the best in state talent in Tennessee. 2013 was bad because he had to repair the fractured relationships Dooley created within the state. But in 2014, he got 9 of the top 11 in the state. In 2015, Butch got 3 of the top 4 and in 2016 he got 2 out the top 5. He does seem to be trending downward in in state recruiting.

Tennessee and Georgia are not even in the same universe when it comes to recruiting is what I am saying. Georgia has also been a consistently winning program at least for the past 15 years or so. So IMO, comparing Smart and Butch when it comes to recruiting isnt fair or accurate.
