'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

I just find it so crazy to see H.S. Players in the state not growing up UT fans!!!!

When i was in HS I would have committed the minute Coach Jones offered! And I find it crazy that any player in our state would not do the same!

That being said I pray Trey and all the other prospects in the State start to feel more loyalty toward the big Orange.

The team has sucked for most of their childhood. Literally no better than Vanderbilt. Can't really blame them.

Oh but we grew up in a different Era than these HS kids. I know plenty of West Tennesseans that are Bama fans. In the 90's all I saw on cars and house flags were the Power T.

I blame it on bad parenting. We were raised right.:)

New espn player rankings are out. Trey Smith jumped to 5* and they rank him as the #1 player in the nation.

When I went to HS, all the kids playing football were born and raised in Tennessee as Tennessee fans. Today, many of the better players have moved to Tennessee from out of State and grew up liking other Universities. They do not have the inbred love for Tennessee as most of us who are over 30 years of age. Add that to the fact that Tennessee football has been on the down turn between 2001 and 2013. This means that our coaching staff have to work much harder than the coaches had to 20-30 years ago to recruit Tennessee HS football and basketball players.

How old is Trey? 17 maybe?

If so, during his lifetime Tennessee is 129-79.....Vandy is 72-131

Let's just assume he's only been paying attention the last 10 years, since he was 7.....Tennessee is 68-59 while Vandy is 51-73. Also, Tennessee has 6 bowl appearances during that time and 3 top 25 finishes.....Vandy 4 and 2.

Finally, the last 10 years Tennessee is 8-2 vs Vandy.....and during Trey's 17 year lifetime, it's UT 15-2.

Literally no better than Vanderbilt? Wrong again.

For real. Nashville is owned by Vols fans. As a matter of fact, I think Bama probably has the second most fans in the midstate, followed by OleMiss and then Vandy. They're a disgrace.

"Downturn" since 2008.... Not 2001... I know we havent been at an national championship level since about 2001 or maybe 2004 and 2005. However, being ranked, 3 SECCG game appearances in 2001, 2004, and 2007 with a few top ten rankings and 9-10 win seasons isn't really a downturn. That started in 2008.

2005 was not national championship level.

We sucked in 02, 03, 05, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, and we were average in 2014. 2015 was the first year we've been good. So out of 14 years we were bad in 8 or 9 of those years. Compare that to our success in the 90's....that is most definitely a downturn.

We didn't suck in 09. We weren't great, or really even good for that matter, but you can't call the 2014 team average and say 09 sucked. We made a bowl game and had two first round draft picks.

We sucked in 2003? We went 10-3 and broke then top 10 ranked Miami's home winning streak. Also beat Florida and Bama on the road in 2003. Some of you say things without even vetting what you're saying.
