'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

How are we looking at center after Thomas graduates? Weisman is gone. Robertson will be gone by then. Does Jones move in? Locklear?

Exactly. I might be one of the only ones but if we get some decent coaching next year I think we may shock a few people.

That's what I'm hoping. We could be just a few corrections (especially S&C) and JG being legit from doing next year what we should have done this year

IMO on next years line:

LT: Richmond-Tatum
RT: Kendrick-Smith
LG: Robertson-Boulware
RG: Jones-Hall
C: Thomas-Jones

Smith and Hall will be interchangeable at guard and right tackle

NO WAY is it anyone but Hall at RT if healthy, point blank. Agree elsewhere but Smith goes in Halls open Guard spot.

SIAP, but he was #10 on Rivals top performers from the game. The only OL to make the list.

Smith did a good job of keeping his man in front of him in pass protection and showed impressive lateral quickness. He played various positions along the offensive line and could do so when he arrives at Tennessee. Smith’s strong punch stunned defenders and when he got the on the ground he didn’t let them up.

Ideally with proper team development and depth, an OLineman should not be expected to start until his third year (redshirt sophomore). Injuries, academic, or any suspension/discipline issues will be a part of the determining factor. The Vols have been playing catch up since the Dooley era with the development and depth of a quality offensive line. Hopefully a new OL coach will take advantage of the improved quality of numbers in the trenches in '17.

See I was thinking. Richmond-Lt, Jashon-Lg, Thomas-C, Smith-RG, Hall-Rt. To start off with and see where is goes. Hall came back to soon this year and was not ready. Thomas was hurt early as well. Coaches see to be real high on Tatum as well he just has to get stronger and bigger.

I like what your thinking but mine is slightly different...
LT - Richmond is starting to get comfortable
LG - Robertson been a main stay there.
C - Coleman Thomas it's his best position.
RG- if healthy I say we kick Chance Hall inside.
RT- Trey Smith I think he could be a dominant RT with his physicality.

This is true but there are always exceptions. If Smith is the top offensive lineman then there is no reason he can't get reps his first year and start his second. A red shirt does no good for somebody who will be on his way to the NFL in 3 or 4 years.

Depending on how healthy Hall is Kendrick might take the RT spot early, and with how important consistency across the whole line is it might be tough for Hall to take it back if it looks good overall. I would love to have a line set and not be playing musical chairs with the line a month in the season still.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Jack Jones made a push for the starting C position. He's probably better at the point of attack than Thomas and he's athletic enough to make blocks in space when pulling like Thomas does

This is the line up I want at O-line:

LT: Richmond RS SO
LG: Robertson SR
C: Jones/Thomas JR/SR
RG: Smith FR
RT: Hall/Kendrick JR/SR

Solid SOLID options all around. Can't forget about Boulware and others coming back like Johnson, Tatum, and Neihaus. We are developing good depth at the O-line, and I think us taking a lot of D-line this year will go a long way towards building depth there as well and that's how we will get to the next level.

I honestly would like Jones at Center and Hall at LG. Robertson Jones Hall is the most athletic and physically dominating interior we have had in several years.

Can Robinson says hi

When do the next recruiting bumps come? Want to know if Farrell continues to explain his awful ranking or if he has actually come to the light

Wonder if the start to class him as a guard? Think that doesn't necessarily help but can't imagine there is a better guard.

It's a glorified position because it protects the traditional right handed QB's blind side, but it's not always manned by the best player. Mark Tuinei was the 3rd or 4th best Cowboys OL during their glory run. Before his car accident, RT Erik Williams was the dominant talent in the league...and his linemates fed off of that. Afterwards, Larry Allen at OG took that mantle. I could see our future lines being paced by Cade Mays at RT. I'll take a mauling dominant RT and decent LT over the opposite any day of the week and twice on Sunday. :)

Good points..especially in this offense I believe a dominant right side is more important.
