All schools do this but some do it more than others. We get a couple of 5* or one 5* & one 4* recruit left out of the 2017 signing class & we're going to be a top 10 class even with what we already have right now.

We let 3-5 players go & sign some more 4-5* recruits & we could end up top 5. It's going to be hard to get top 5 though but top 10 is very doable.

I don't think it matters if you drop 5 or you drop 10. If you're known for dumping commits to make room, it is what it is. I'd imagine the coaches using it against you in recruiting don't do it themselves.

As for your top 10 class talk Tony, I believe you need to go look at previous top 25 classes and see what they had on signing day. You said if we add 1 five star and 1 four star and the rest of the class stays as is we will be top 10. Its not even close man. Last year we had 10 four stars and 13 three stars to finish 14th. We currently have just 3 four stars. We get to 1 five star, 4 four stars, and the rest three stars, we MIGHT finish 18-20th.

If Butch drops 3-5 current commits that leaves us 5-7 recruits to sign. If we play it smart & can get the big dogs to sign with us on NSD then we're going to end up top 10 more than likely. Kind of like how he did it 2 seasons ago. He killed it on NSD & that's why we got top 5.

I don't think there's no way in heck we get top 5 out of this mess now but with my above scenario we could definitely be top 10. It won't happen though unless we drop 3-5 commits & sign mostly 5* & 4* players though.

If we have 7 spots available then we need to shoot for at least three 5* recruits & four 4* recruits or vice versa. We do that & we can get it done. The problem is getting it done but Butch can work his magic hopefully on NSD. Thanks!

I think Butch has backed himself into a corner by letting too many of the low 3 star recruits commit early. There are obviously a few that we need to cull. Coaches, players, and parents will not be happy but that is what needs to be done to save the class. Make no mistake though, it will get negative press.

Not sure what is going on with recruiting but Butch needs to get his act together in recruiting FAST! Has he not figured out that cutting players is playing against him with the other schools??

I know he got some bad press and it went viral when the Hart kid in Memphis was cut unofficially from a year ago.

I want be surprised if we continue to lose in-state kids.

I would agree there is a major problem. We only have a commit from 1 of 12 of the top prospects in state. Too many good players are leaving. I know Thig had some problems in middle TN with some of his comments. Was hoping that Shoop would help smooth over some of those issues.

Yeah, but cutting 3* recruits only bode poorly in our ability to recruit more 3* kids who may get spurned, right? Which means we will only get 4&5* recruits!!
