'17 TN RB/CB Chase Hayden (Arkansas commit)

This could come back to haunt us.

Fact is he could rush for 4000 yards at AR and fans will still swear he wasn't good enough to play here. The thread itself depicts UT fans in a nutshell. "Take, Take, Take, great film, speed, take", for about 2 years. Mid June, literally last month, "he's just not good enough".

Meanwhile we have a lower ranked RB committed that will knock five people down if he gets an LSU offer trying to get out of the class.

Haunt us? Probably not. Fans just don't value talented TN kids. I believe that sentiment is at least in part, part of the problem.

Maybe or maybe both sides win. He goes to a school confident it can use him in their system at the positon he prefers while TN likes Coleman/Akers/Chandler better for system and thinks it can pull all 3. I personally agree with that evaluation that those 3 are perfect fits for offense more so than Hayden.

Just my opinion, but I think it is a mistake not to take a legacy recruit unless he is not even a power 5 level talent. If he is good enough for Arkansas, we should take him.

Also I think it was D1Conley that said he looked good just needed to add weight, well that should not be a problem imo.

If this kid was more than a 3* recruit I would say there's no way we can let him get away from us. However, we already signed a bunch of 3* players. We need some 4* & 5* recruits now.

Our coaches don't really care at all about how many stars he has because they don't use that to determine his ability to contribute, but since you seem to care, he's a 4* on both Rivals and 247.

Not sure why "Tennessee fans not valuing Tennessee players" would be cited as a factor in this recruitment...even if it were true (and it's not, just the tired product of a bored troll's mind :)). The COACHES evaluated and basically passed. They can't do fantasy recruiting or recruit scared. They recruit the Tennessee players THEY feel will contribute to the talent level of the team. Essentially taking care of the program. They've never neglected a Tennessee prospect for a LESS talented out of state prospect...at least by their evaluation. Theirs count because their jobs rely on it. They don't get to tell their driver (and constant companion) Brandon to take them home and draw a bath after a fanciful noble recruiting experiment goes awry...they get fired. Wish Chase Hayden the brightest of careers but even if he's a future superstar, my mind's at peace on this one.

UT coaches thought he would be better as a slot guy and he wanted to be a pure running back. We like RB's bigger than 170 and I know he will get bigger but that's our philosophy. He ran a 4.63 40 but is quick as a hiccup out in space and that's where the coaches envisioned him. Chase did not like that position.

Not questioning the Tennessee staff's eval here. I agree with it, for the record.

Doesn't mean I can't feel empathy for the kid. Gotta be rough...

Don't get me wrong, I trust the staff and all... But I kinda find it odd that we would recruit Nieko Creamer and not this kid.

Neiko was in Butch's first full recruiting class. There was a void of talent and some stabs in the dark were warranted. You could also posit that MAYBE Butch learned not to write blank checks for merely being legacies? :hmm: We passed on Patrick Lenoir,Alvin Harper and JJ Mckleskey's kids also.

Fair points. Just a thought. Nieko had by far the worst offer list of all of the legacies which was why I said that. Did any of the three you stated go to big time schools?

None have stood out if they did.
