'17 TX QB Will McBride (UT Commit 12/13/2016)

From 247
It’s a tough decision,” said McBride, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 29 dual-threat quarterback in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class. “For everyone else, it kind of seems like a no-brainer. But when you really step into my shoes, no one understands the connection I have with Memphis, and no one really understands what a great place Memphis is until you’re up there.
“Obviously, both sides are great places, and from everyone else’s perspective, it just kind of seems weird that it’s even a question. But for me it's just all about being happy and being comfortable and just going to a place I can see myself being for the next four to five years.
“It really just comes down to my gut feeling and what I want to do.”
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound McBride said his first visit to Tennessee on Sunday, just three days after he received a scholarship offer from the Vols, was “great” and only further complicated what he already expected to be a difficult decision.

I think the kid is making a business decision and likely goes where he thinks he'll have the best shot at playing, and to me, that's Memphis. I think his pride and heart are maybe saying Tennessee, but his head is saying Memphis. I won't be surprised if he picks Tennessee, but I'd bank on him sticking with UM.

The way starters drop like flies round here...the smart play would be Tennessee. :) It is hard to get noticed at Tiger high. Didn't notice them playing 4 weeks in a row on CBS.

Norvell is a great offensive mind. But the interesting dynamic is that he probably won't be at Memphis very long. This kid will probably have another coach by the time he graduates. They are already talking here that Norvell will get some looks at Power 5 schools with one more good year. Also, Chip Long, Memphis' OC, is being interviewed by Ole Miss. Not sure how serious the interest is though. I heard a theory about why Ole Miss is interested, and that is a story on its own.

I agree. Norvell is big plus, but he might be moving on up soon.

As for Chip Long and Ole Miss, I'm sure the potential interest is based in purity and honor...lol

I don't know how much background research this kid is utilizing, but if JG wins the starting nod, QD and SJ most likely transfers. McBride would be backing up a kid who couldn't physically complete his last two high school seasons.

Yep..exactly.

Perhaps he's not comfortable with the idea of playing vs SEC competition? Maybe he sees himself having better success in the American Athletic Conference? Just speculating. That was my first thought, could be totally off base. Memphis is an ish hole. As he said, twice, it's pretty much a no brainer to everyone else....so what's holding him back?

It's often quite a shock when you envision some path for your life and then an alternate path suddenly presents itself. I don't blame him for the indecision.

Wasn't hard for Paxton who was drafted 1st round.. Something we haven't had since Peyton was here. And Riley had a great season and will bet he gets drafted by the middle rounds next season. Not sure Dobb's gets drafted or if he does it will be round 6-7. We really got to start getting players drafted more consistently.

SIAP, but the QB LSU had committed just de-committed (Narcisse?) and is looking at Memphis as a finalist. Hopefully that helps us here.

Somebody should teach him that old saying..." Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" :)

Is that really true? Dobbs was 4th in the list when he got his start. Notwithstanding Dobbs durability, QBs get hurt. OSU won a championship with #3.

Are you really arguing that it's better to be a starting QB at Memphis than UT? Lynch got drafted high because he is a really good QB. Dobbs is not gonna be drafted high because he is not a really good overall QB. Paxton could have competed for a Heisman with those numbers at a higher profile school.
