I actually think this is a very informed & nice post coming from you buddy. Way to go! :good!:

I don't think he really meant replacing Barnett. He was saying bringing/playing people that will at least maintain the type of Barnett play. Of course, we can't replace Barnett. One more sack & he can say he's another Reggie White. :good!:

Aw! Thanks Tony. Today I'm thankful for Tony's compliment (no blue font :) I mean it this time)

Completely disagree. Far and away better? Hardly my friend. Derek Barnett is right on the heels of White on the college level. White was by no means far and away better.

I like your post BOT but on this one I'm going to have to disagree with you. Reggie White is in a class by himself when it comes to DE's that have played at UT. He was a run stopper & not just mainly a pass rusher like Barnett.

Although Barnett has become a solid run stopper this season. He might break White's record of sacks in a career but I feel Reggie was still the better DE. Not by a long shot but way enough buddy.

If we get this guy that means we struck out on 8+ players

Way more than that BO91. More like 19+ players. This includes offers & ones that we have just shown interest in as of right now.

Take a look in my recruiting thread & I have the latest updates for recruiting in all positions for actually 2018 & not 2017. The last page of the thread there is a post(#278) in which I did this for each position. However, what I have stated above is also truth for 2017. Thanks.

"Tennessee coaches will also see Ryan Thaxton on Friday. Thaxton is a defensive end out of Alexandria, Virginia that will visit in January."

Per 247, Thaxton is planning to visit UT the weekend of 1/13. He de-committed from UVA in November.

He is visiting Ole Miss the weekend of 1/20, and they appear to be one of his favorites right now. Thaxton isn't ranked highly, but he is another big DE (6'5", 250lbs) that could make the move inside to DT in college.

Shoop says he wants leaner DT's. We'll see what happens here. I was thinking he was UVa. Most are Tech fans in these parts.

Thaxton is expected to make his decision the final week of January.

He posted an estimated 27 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three pass breakups and eight quarterback hurries during a seven game season as a senior at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School this fall, receiving all-state honors for the second straight year. Thaxton posted eight tackles for loss and three sacks for the Saints during his first year at the school in 2015. He posted 36 tackles while playing at T.C. Williams High as a sophomore.

Vanderbilt among Ryan Thaxton's four finalists

Forget this leaner DT stuff… This is the SEC. You have to be a full-grown man to play in the trenches in this league.

We've had plenty of lean DTs play good ball for us. Wes Brown, Malik, Hood, Jordan Williams are just a few that come to mind from recent years.

Don't think we have room unless we whiff on all RBs that we have tried to recruit to fill that 3rd RB spot. Then we may take another OL or perhaps a DL.

EDIT: I meant to say room for Thaxton

Seems odd that his list includes a pretty good team in the SEC with the worst academics and one of the worst athletic schools with the best academics

That's his list though. I'm going to see what links I can provide today for the recruits that don't require a subscription. Thanks!

"Virginia defensive lineman Ryan Thaxton just told me he is scheduled to be in Knoxville this weekend for a visit. It will be his first trip to see the Vols.

The weekend of the 20th he will visit either NC State or Baylor.

So that's 4 defensive linemen scheduled to be in this weekend:

Elijah Conliffe
Ryan Thaxton
Eric Crosby
LaBryan Ray"
