'17 WV OT Billy Ross (UNC commit)

From the timing referenced in Austin Price's report, sounds to me like there was a first come, first served spot up for grabs between Ross and Locklear and Locklear locked it up.

Articles after Locklear committed seemed to point to UT in a wait and see on Moore while they waited for Ross to make a decision. Of course things can change daily.

What about Eze, do we not have a shot with him?

We do but I think he's taking his time on making a decision.

BTW

RC on the OL numbers

"It's maybe not completely guaranteed that Tennessee will have room for a fourth OL in this class. The goal has always been 3-4, with four maybe being a bit more likely than three. If the Vols could land Eze, I'm sure they would take him. And if they do sign four, I think K'Rojhn Calbert and Jalen McKenzie both are guys they're still evaluating who could get offers in the coming months. They're certainly worth watching going into their senior seasons."

^This in bold. McKenzie can come in as an OL or DL. I'm sure he wants to follow in his brother's footsteps to UT.

We just have to decide at some point if we want to offer. If we can get him it will be up to the coaching staff the best side of the ball for him. Obviously, he can play either side of the ball.

But, he's only a 3* recruit compared to a 5* status of his brother. Big brother must not have worked enough with him! :)

My thinking as well along with increased odds on Smith in past week. Going to be interesting what they do come NSD. Smith and Locklear should be pencilled in at two spots. Tucker for now but if you can get EZE and then JMac or Colbert have big Sr yrs it's hard to pass up them.

Little brother knees not so good.

Would have rather had Ross than Locklear or Tucker.

It is very likely that the reason we would take Locklear and Tucker ahead of Billy Ross is that Locklear and Tucker could play multiple positions on the OL and Ross was only projected for one

These days, we do not recruit OC, OG and OT. We recruit OL and work them at all positions to find the best fit.

You have done absolutely nothing but gripe about Ross this entire thread.

You even have one post where you name Locklear as one of the reasons you don't see why we're bothering.
I admit, I get a kick out of reading your posts. But the 180 here is a bit much even for you.lol

Please don't encourage him by responding. Whatever two we had ended up with, he would have preferred someone else.

Yeah, Jalen has had I think 2 injuries on the same knee.

Tennessee honored the scholarship offer and took a TE after a second knee injury to the same knee. This was with Coach Butch Jones.

Not an unprecedented move with this coaching staff. If he has a strong senior season, I think the offer is there. Heck, he might just walkon and then take a scholarship. His last name is McKenzie. He has nothing but Orange blood... :)

Not bashing you, just a counter point and jmo. :hi:

First rule of trolling is to keep your story line straight...lol

IIRC, Jalen's mom is a UCLA alum. And he has an offer from them (don't know if it's committable at this time with his injuries). I don't personally see him walking on here when he has a scholarship in his state at his mom's alma-mater. Now, if he balls out this year and earns an offer from us, game on - he's ours. All JMO.

Callahan said today Tennessee backed off on Ross.

Interesting for sure. Services seemed sure UT had Moore on wait and see until Ross decided. At least making it seem like we wanted him.

Then he visits UNC.

Reports come out a few days later saying we passed and may take Moore now.

Of course the Trey Smith visit might have played into it, but I believe that was after the trip to UNC for Ross.

Yes it is a little confusing as it seemed like we really wanted Ross about a week and a half ago.
