'17 WV OT Riley Locklear (UT signee)

I think both Ross and Locklear end up on the interior.

I think we are shooting for Smith and Eze as our bookends with T.J. Moore as a backup (I'm not totally convinced Tucker signs with us if we can get both Smith and Eze).

FWIW Tucker plays against better competition than any other lineman we re currently in on, except for maybe Brahms. North Fulton football is no joke.

We did at least beat FSU for Locklear. FSU is really striking out on OL so far. They don't have any committed at this point.

And apparently 28 other schools. Including Mich State who just has an OL taken in the top ten. But please don't let that get in the way of your butt hurt agenda.

Used to referee football in North Fulton. Love the competition level there. I think those players are more likely to pan out than most.

I'm okay with this because I'd rather the staff sign tackles and move them inside than be forced into moving a guard to tackle. One transition is easier than the other. I'm sure the staff have a few prospects pegged as interior linemen, but this staff seems to value versatility.

I feel the same way about signing offensive linemen. Dooley still hurts and Jelks would have looked good in orange.

It was pretty clear from watching them last season that our particular brand of OL functions best with players who have a level of athleticism that traditional OL's don't necessarily require. IIRC, Alabama's Reggie Ragland said UT was the toughest OL he faced and that the blocking schemes we ran were ridiculous. Honestly, I think that's why we struggled getting the OL established in the first place but now that it's up and running and we're recruiting the right athletes for it things should be a lot easier.

And yeah, I'm also one who does backflips over OL recruits. After Dooley, I don't think I'll ever take OL for granted. I can still remember when Fulmer was asked to comment on Butch's first real class as it was still coming together and he said it was good but that we 'need more lineman' and many fans flipped their lids because they took it as a criticism of CBJ instead of CPF simply pointing out that we had a serious depth issue in the trenches because of Dooley that needed to be fixed.

Agreed it the good thing about recruiting versatile kids is if you happen to miss on plan A you can easily move to plan b

This is the 18th commitment and SEC limits class to 25 not including back counting, blue shirts, etc.
Still not really relevant though. As it stands now we dont have 25 scholarships to give out so throwing out a number on how many spots we have left (based on the SEC limit and not based on our own scholarship limit) is kind of silly.

FSU should probably go ahead and fire Jimbo then. He obviously has no clue and can't recruit anymore.

Many teams have a down year now and again in recruiting certain positions. The same thing may happen to us this year at QB. I'm sure FSU will find some linemen, they just may not be what Jimbo hoped for.

I'd be happy with an OL class of Tucker, Smith/Eze/Moore, Ross, and Locklear. Staff has done a pretty good job finding talent at the OL position. I know Tucker's ranking is low, but as some have noted, he plays good competition and will have time to redshirt and develop given our current depth.

Pulling Jack Jones, Hall, Richmond, and Boulware in one OL class was far under-appreciated at the time. Great class.

FSU took 6 OL guys in 2016. Four 4* and Two 3*. They may be being very selective this year.

I figured I'd take a look at who FSU offered. At OT for 2017 they extended 15 "offers". Committable or not, no clue. Of those 15, 12 are 4-5* kids. Of the 3 3* guys, Locklear and Ross were 2 of them.

I think you missed my sarcasm. I don't use blue font because it ruins the fun.

"The one thing several ppl have told me is Riley is really flexible. Last year was the first year he has played OL. He has played anything from QB to WR in high school. He is still learning the position but I know being able to play multiple spots was a huge appeal. Both FSU and Michigan State really liked him."

Glad to see we've landed our QB for this class.
