$170 Million, Seriously?

What was the price tag on the "Mission Accomplished" ceremony?

I'll guarantee it wasn't 170 MM. It was also acknowledging our soldiers rather than proclaiming one man the savior.

I'd like to see a truefan response that doesn't contain the word "reactionary."

Oh well that changes things. That makes it far more essential.

What is the breakdown? Security vs. parties, etc.?

It sounds like the strategy for these events is that as many people who want to come, should be able to come, safely.

It is a minor stimulus package!

But seriously, his TS nominee did not pay his taxes until he needed to for political reasons and people are glossing right over this. The free pass this guy is going to get for the next 4 years is going to be the problem.

I'm not saying it is essential, just pointing out that considering there will be 2-3 million, vs 400k at the last one, it doesn't seem that unreasonable.

I really think it's excessive - but you can't use Bush as a comparison. Using the exact same comparisons Bush's cost $40M to Obama's $45M. Those numbers are for parties and parades only. Bush's inauguration had another $100M in security, etc and Obama's is estimated anywhere between $100M-$120M from what I've seen.

Regardless of how much Bush's was -- it's all ridiculously excessive.

Given the 180 difference in the two economies, I'd say it's unreasonable. It's essentially a 170 million dollar party at the taxpayers' expense, on the heels of his bemoaning the economy to justify more spending programs. I like that we're making a big deal out of the fact that e's the first acknowledged minority ever to take the office, but not at this Lind of egregious expense. FTR, I thought Bush should have been impeached for his 43 million gig.

where are these numbers coming from? If they were remotely correct, the left would have been killing us with them by now.

Media Matters - MSNBC's Tamron Hall asserted Bush's 2005 inauguration "cost roughly $40 million," ignored reported $100 million in additional costs

I just Googled it and got this. Don't know the website, but the sources used within the article are from older CNN, Washington Post, and NY Times articles from when Bush was inaugurated.

I didn't research it any further than that.

I realize that, but the sources used in the article were more credible.

From what I've read it's 140-157 mil for Bush's to Obama's 160-170 mil.

I guess MSNBC leans right now?
