'18 AL DE Malik Langham

“Hey Malik, we want to be 100 with you. We like this guy, that guy, that guy, this guy and that guy better than you. Wait, what? We also like this guy and that other guy too, Now, if all of them turn us down, we 100% want you to be the next great Bama lineman. What do you say?” (Cough, cough)

“Now before you answer, let’s make sure those others guys say no first. You got it?”

I had an interview like that one time. Needless to say I moved on

Apparently so.

Apparently Saint Nick is not as saintly as you thought.

Even if the player you referenced had the opportunity to go elsewhere, finding out that you had to go elsewhere in February is wrong.

I know that I just wasted a couple of minutes of my life in attempting to inform you that Nick is not God's gift to the football world, but hey, I had to try.

I never said I think Saban's a saint or God's gift to the football world. I think he does try to be pretty honest with recruits and parents. It'll burn you if you're not.

Recruits sometimes blind side coaches too, by flipping close to or on NSD. Coaches try hard to flip commits and may succeed very late. Some kids delay and don't reach a final decision and inform coaches until right at NSD. Some at-NSD decisions go your way, some don't. Some dominoes fall unexpectedly and trigger other ones to fall differently.

To be sure they fill their class, coaches have to "over recruit" more than they have room for; i.e., "backup plans." Typically recruits are advised by their HS coaches, parents, etc. to have back up plans for themselves too. No smart coach wants to haphazardly give recruits bad news late, because it damages their image, relationships and future recruiting efforts.

Sometimes it happens, though, because of all the various factors and uncertainties, such as those I mentioned above. It may happen to CJP too. Just because it happens, doesn't mean it's all the coach's fault or that he doesn't care how it impacts the recruit.

Vol, and he’s bringing the whole state of Alabama with him

Another example of how things can change rapidly. Auburn went from cold-shouldering Langham and not offering him until the final few weeks before signing day to potentially getting the last official visit in spite of Langham talking on record about being a man of his word and keeping the visit to Tennessee. Tough deal for the Vols. But I agree that Langham is likely T-town bound regardless.

From SEC Country:

Malik Langham, 4-star prospect, Lee (Huntsville, Ala.)

Malik Langham told SEC Country on Sunday, shortly after his official visit to Florida, that Alabama still leads for him. He has an official visit to Tennessee coming this weekend. Barring anything unforeseen, I expect Langham in the Tide’s class.

Defensive end Malik Langham has been a prospect that Pruitt has liked since he arrived in Knoxville. The problem is that other schools have fallen in love with the now 4-star end from Huntsville, Ala. And at this point, it looks more likely that Langham will not visit Tennessee this weekend. Auburn is pushing for Langham's final visit this weekend and appear to have the inside track. Langham is also giving some thought to not visiting anywhere. Alabama is the leader for Langham.
