'18 CA CB Olaijah Griffin (USC signee)

Thinking USCw wins out here. Distance and being away from family too much of a factor here.

But can’t count out Pruitt. He knows how to recruit and close.

I have to agree, though if Pruitt got Mama on board, he is coming here. Not sure he can as we are a long way from home.

Where is our DC? I keep reading about all these visits “coast to coast”, and see rare glimpses of Helton but not once have I seen any mention of our DC

He’s been mentioned quite a few times. He’s out grinding just like the rest of the staff. This was Monday night from Austin Price...

Tracy Rocker saw Langham and Miller today.

Charles Kelly was in Dallas.

Kevin Sherrer was in D.C.

Helton / Gillespie / Johnson Saw Antoine Green and Jacoby Copeland.

Fair / Pruitt / Niedermeyer saw Griffin, Geordon Porter and visited Mater Dei.

Still feels like a toss-up with Griffin. I think Tennessee has a legitimate chance, but some close his family don't think his parents are keen on the idea of him leaving the West Coast to go somewhere as far away as Tennessee. It helps that he has family in the Chattanooga area, but that still wouldn't make him any closer to his family. It's going to be a tough decision for Griffin, and the path of least resistance is probably for him to go to USC. But I still think the Vols have a real shot. Sounds like they really impressed Griffin and his family last night during Pruitt's in-home visit.

He's gonna do a Landon Collins and be his own man. He's gonna look good in Orange.

you just want that to happen like we all do. this is nothing like the landon collins situation. he chose bama, which isnt THAT far from LSU. Cali is a bit further from knoxville than that. second, bama was already winning NC's at that point, we unfortunately are not there yet to help persuade kids to leave home as easily.

It's a little different than Landon Collins. His mom was all LSU and hated bama. She straight up told him not to go there. With OG it seems his family wants him to stay out there but I wouldn't say it's the same level of Collins. I would bet if he chose us his family would be just fine with the decision. Of course they'd rather him stay but not with a "hey that mom looks like she's going to murder her son on national tv for choosing bama" kind of vitriol. :)

Edit: I think I quoted the wrong post. Oops.

If he goes against the wishes of his parents (if the rumors are true) and comes to UT then it is a parallelism to the Collins situation. You can't use distance as a factor because distance didn't make the decision easier on his parents in Landon's case, even though Knoxville is farther away for OG. It's a case of a parent wanting their child to stay closer to home. In Landon's case, he chose his own path. It has nothing to do with NC's either. It's about CJP selling his VISION for OG to OG and family. If he's successful in that, OG will be a Vol.

the difference in distance DOES matter whether you think it does or not. also, LOL @ NC's not mattering in influencing an 18 year olds decision...keep thinking that too bud. like i said, i hope we get the kid, but dont get your hopes up too high

Nothing that has been said by or about OG has indicated his parents would not let him come to Tennessee. Just that they would rather him stay closer to home. It sounds like they are pretty reasonable about it. Probably just presenting their case to stay. And letting him decide. And he may choose to stay out there. Neither choice would be a bad choice for him. I hope he chooses Tennessee but understand staying home as well. I hate USC as much as the next guy but pretending they don't have every bit as much to offer as us is just ignoring facts.

L Collins issue was his mother wanted himk to stay closer to home but his father wanted him at UA and they did not live together. IIRC he spent more time with his father hence why what the mother wanted did not affect him.

USC is considered the favorite to win the PAC 12 next year which puts them in contention for the CFB playoffs

USC won the Pac 12 this year and they didn’t make the playoffs. Much better chance of playoffs if you go to the SEC.
