'18 CA QB Adrian Martinez

Urban wanted JG. Urban settled for taking Haskins from the Terps. Lawrence fits in any offense.

I totally didn't mean that post to seem negative, just breaking down why we struck out on probably the top 3 QB of this class.

JG was a big win, no doubt. And I don't mean to detract too much from it, but without the connection between Jones and Gaurantano's dad, that's a much harder pull.

Lawrence might be a statue back there. Now, the only time I've really ever seen an immobile passer be effective in one of these shotgun spread, read option offenses is when Meyer had Leak at QB. And even then, Tebow took some snaps. I've never seen Dabo's O run without a mobile QB. So I just think his success there remains to be seen.

All that said, Martinez seems to be the next guy on the coach's board and I'd be pretty happy if he were to pick the Vols.

Yeah he's tough on the recruiting trail. Urban coached at ND with my godfather, they talk regularly and they're both QB/Offense obsessed, Urban actually adopted the athletic QB preference after seeing the success my uncle had as the OC for McNabb/Graves and setting a few offensive records with awful QBs that could move a bit at ND. People mocked him for leaving Florida, but that guys blood pressure on game day is twice as likely to kill a man as ole butchies. He's a disaster (emotionally) on game day and he's failed to develop his QBs but he can obviously sell. He's got awards in his office for things he's done to changes NCAA rules in aid of allowing families to get to games, he sells himself as someone who puts his job on the line for the parents of his guys and it works, he takes credit for changes in rules and makes his own awards to show them. Interesting fella.

I didn't want to admit it for a while, but I think not having a QB coach probably hurt. It probably didn't look good when these guys showed up to visit and three coaches were working the OL producing lackluster results, while the QB's are stuck with a grad assistant. The passing game was so inconsistent too; for every '16 Florida game, it seems there was a '16 S. Carolina game.

Lawrence, Jones, and Fields are all five star program changers, and could do for UT what Cam Newton did for Auburn.

Now I really don't think a pocket passer like Lawrence is a good fit for the offense, in fact, it's to be determined if a pocket passer will fit in Clemson's offense either.

In regards to Jones, it would be difficult for anyone to beat out Meyer for a DT QB that he really wants.

As for Fields, he was intrigued at one point, iirc. I think that had everything to do with Penn State having a good showing in the Rose Bowl and UT sh¡77ing the bed vs. S. Carolina and Vandy. Just a gut feeling, but I bet Fields becomes intrigued again if Guarantano lives up to the hype this year.
That's true! Very good points, sir. Here's to getting back into the top ten for recruiting! We can't keep doing 11-20th type of stuff in the SEC.

A good showing in the draft this year will be a step in the right direction. Match or exceed last year's record, and I think we could easily finish top 10 recruiting.

Take both of them. :) We're probably going after 2 QB's anyhow for 2018 so.

You get a QB
You get a QB
You get a QB

On a scale 1-10, how's our chances of flipping Martinez? I love this kid's film.
