'18 CA QB Adrian Martinez

Really? Then what the hell we are given that they've beaten us the last two times we played, have a legit Heisman trophy contender, a future HOF head coach, finished 11-2/in the top 5 last year and that they were in the playoffs 2 years ago? If that's being "nobody", give me some "nobody" in Knoxville.

I love my Vols ..... while recognizing that there are other programs out there that have earned my respect with their performance/traditions/greatness over time. It's just dumb to say programs like OU are "nobody"...it's just not true.

I'm not saying Oklahoma isn't an elite program. Their QB situation is overrated. Tennessee just recently had a QB drafted in Dobbs and with more experience on the O-Line this year, I expect to see Dormady put up big numbers. Also note that there isn't any guarantee Penix will play QB here so competition shouldn't scare off Martinez. He fits our offense perfectly and he'll get the chance to play in the SEC against the best. There's a lot to like about Tennessee just as much as Oklahoma.

Oklahoma didn't beat Tennessee the last time they played. Butch cost them that game himself. That's a game we should have easily won, possibly blew out.

I expect our QB play to improve tremendously if our O-Line stays healthy. OU might have Martinez's attention for right now but once he sees how Dormady progresses this year, he's going to rethink that.

Get into the spirit KB, I'm not giving up on you just yet. :) Go Vols!

You're right. That picture will trump Mayfield putting up huge numbers and getting Heisman votes, I'm sure of it.

Let's not act like UT's offense was a joke while it set records last year. Martinez would be a perfect fit for UT's offense.

Also, Mayfield will probably end up getting drafted next year below what Dobbs did this year... just saying.

We are TENNESSEE damnit. We shouldn't be afraid of anyone on the field or off!!!! Who cares Oklahoma wants this kid, I hope they do. I hope Alabama, Florida, USC, Texas, and ever my other school wants him too. Does that mean we tuck our tail and hide, hell no it doesn't. We have produced greats at this school, Peyton, Reggie, Eric,Wilson,Little,Carter,Atkins,Majors,Henderson, Hayneswoth, Holloway. Did they back down? No they didn't and neither should we. We cheer for one of the best college football programs in history, and take pride in it. To all you people scared of Oklahoma coming after a recruit we want, go cheer for Vandy. There isn't any room on this bus!!!!!

Go Vols!!!!!! Trying to pump people up in here.

Honestly, after some of the trash guys, on a personal level, that have been brought in and accepted at OU as if they were model citizens, if I were a recruit I would never consider them no matter how much on the field success they have.

It shows a tremendous lack of integrity throughout the entire program for them to support players who have acted the way DGB, Mixon, and Westbrook have. From the head Coach all the way to the top of the administration.

Let's not assume Bob Shoop is a saint himself. He's shady and is a big a** crybaby who's jealous of the SEC. It's quite comical how embarrassing he makes himself look on National TV.

17 year old kids don't care about the behavior of kids at a program. Especially if those kids are still getting drafted and cashing a check in spite of their misdeeds. You might have 1-2 parents or grandparents who put their foot down, but it's not likely to cost Stoops much. The fact that Urban Meyer is still considered a role model shows that these parents and kids by and large don't care. Winning and money is what matters.

Dang OU has been a thorn in our sides the last few years. Would be nice to get a win against them for a change.

What? I responded to your post where you called them "a nobody"....that's the opposite of being an elite program.

However it happened, we have indeed lost the last two games vs OU.

I'm not sure how OU's "qb situation" is overrrated. All a prospect sees are the throws downfield (11+ yards per attempt last year which is unreal), all the yards, all the td passes, all the wins, and Mayfield sitting next to the other invitees at the Heisman ceremony

I agree with you other points and you no reason to "give up" on me....been a fan for 40+ years, nothing's gonna change that until they bury me, hopefully not sooner than 30 or so years from now. I simply responded to a couple of posts implying that OU wasn't an attractive option for a top qb prospect and that OU is a "nobody" program.

It could be. We've had a lot of bad luck with QB's in this class. TL, EJ, JF and now possibly Martinez. It's just crazy to fathom.

I used to think there was maybe some miscalculation involved in the handling of the TL-EJ situation, but I really have come to believe that neither of those guys was ever going to come to UT. Lawrence because he probably thinks he is too big deal for UT, and he doesn't like the system, and Jones because he was always going to be a Bucknut as soon as they offered.

I can't control how others handle their decisions. If I were a recruit I wouldn't consider them because of it. If my son were being recruited by them I wouldn't allow him to go there.

I'm not acting like Tennessee's offense was a joke or anything else last year. Simply made a factual observation about why a top qb prospect might be attracted to a very successful program with a dynamic offense/passing game. Two very different conversations....I said nothing about Tennessee, only Oklahoma.

Also Mayfield or may not get drafted later than pick 135 next year, who knows. All I pointed out is that prospective qbs like Martinez have surely seen, and liked seeing, Mayfield put up huge passing numbers prior to sitting next to the other heisman trophy invitees in New York.

Fair enough.

Tennessee offensive coordinator Larry Scott was in Fresno, Calif., on Monday to check on Martinez following QBs coach Mike Canales' evaluation visit on Friday, so the Vols have been to his school twice in the past five days.

And I appreciate that. Unfortunately, the majority of today's recruits don't share our values.

He's got to know he's high our #1 QB target right now. And tbh I can't fault the kid for taking his time, especially coming off a decomit. Take your time, make sure you're 100% sure. God forbid he rush into a commitment adn then have second thoughts again - people would label him as a flake or head case.

I hope we get him. If we don't, however, I can honestly say that after Dobbs run here, and with what I expect to be a very good season by Dormandy, that we will start getting the attention of some young talented QB's and could haul in one of the top recruits at the position next year. Until then, I like Penix upside and of course I think we all feel good about Guarantano.

Noticed the Crystal Ball predictions include OU now. But, then I looked at who made the OU Crystal ball predictions (Joey Helmer; OU Insider) and it made a lot more sense.

Completely agree with Oklahoma being a very attractive option. However, if you put Dobbs and a healthy 2016 Tennessee roster in the Big 12 last year, then Tennessee/Dobbs/Jones also achieve everything you just mentioned and maybe more. Still though, Tennessee is not in the Big12 so its kind of a moot point. I just don't think the current state of each program is as far apart as the Charmin Soft Big 12 would make it seem. FWIW, I agree with your original point of Oklahoma being just as attractive of an offer as Tennessee is.
